Senior English is a college pre- paratory, one-semester course which offers a review of English fundamentals and a presentation of new material which will be needed in college work. ln col- laboration with the Problems of Democracy course, a research paper is written under careful supervision. The Senior English class under the supervision of Miss Whitted, faithfully worked hard to get their articles into the Gazette High School page. French and Spanish are taught by Miss Dorothy Bussard. These courses emphasize not only the vocabulary and sentence struc- ture of the language but also the backgrounds, customs, and pre- vailing conditions of the countries where the languages are spoken. Club meetings were held period- ically and the business transacted in the language taught. For fur- ther familiarity with the people of the foreign countries, both French and Spanish Clubs presented a Mardi Gras and the Spanish Club held a banquet serving the cus- tomary foreign foods. Willis offers two years of Latin taught by Mrs. Evans. The students of this language become very fa- miliar with Greek Myths and fa- bles and acquire a great deal of history while they are studying the language. To become better acquainted with the people and customs students are required to do projects involving research or to make items such as tunics, maps, etc. The climax of the year for the pupils is the Latin Banquet in which first year students are sold as slaves. The younger stu- dents put on the program and all enioy the usual big dinner.
