ARTS Art is not for artists only. It is involved in anything we do which expresses something--an idea, a feeling, or a sense of order. Art is life. The art course includes many activities such as leather craft, carving, textile decoration, ceramics, and painting. Home Economics is a four year course for girls based upon learn- ing skills and doing project work in foods, clothing, home furn.ish- ings, child care, grooming, and budgeting. Each girl is required to have a project. This year the girls had a new modernized kitchen in which to work. Students must have singing abil- ity and try out for this choir. An attempt is made to improve the quality of choral singing through the study of breathing, tone qual- ity, phrasmg, posture, ensemble intonation, fundamental vowels, and consonants. ln addition to the Senior Choir there is the Glee Club, Senior Chorus, and Junior High Choir.

Every student in the State of Ohio is required to have one unit of American History for gradua- tion. This course is given at Willis High School in the eleventh grade. The course consists of a survey of the major political, social, and economics problems which have confronted the American people. In connection with this course, the students study Current Events. World History is the elective course taken in the sophomore year. This course is a survey of the social, economic and political problems of the world from the beginnings of civilization to the present day in an attempt to show their effects in our present way of life. Current Affairs is studied in connection with the course. Willis was very fortunate in having Australia's exchange teacher .lack McCloughan teach this course. Problems of Democracy, a twelfth year course required of all seniors, has as its purpose the ex- amination of the various social problems which confront the A- merican people. Among those studied are the problems of men- tal health, crime, alcohol and fam- ily, church, education, race and recreation. One unit is devoted to the study of economic problems and another to those of govern- ment, current affairs are studied through the use of Time magazine, trip, movies, panel discussions, and other activities.
