SENIOR HISTORY jcontinuedj Homecoming was a terrific success, even though we didn't win the game. The floats were beautiful, the queen and her court looked very nice, and the post-game activities were loads of fun. The trips taken by the Problems of Democracy classes were few but fun. They included a trip to the local courthouse and the Columbus Police Department. The annual play of the year was Time Out For Ginger! Several members of the senior class had parts in this production. Christmas vacation found many pupils working diligently on the term papers required by POD and Senior English. The pupils took time out to go to the annual Mistletoe Mix on New Year's Eve and ring in l956. The end of the semester brought a series of tests including the Senior Scholarship test for the top forty percent of the class. At the beginning of the second semester, we felt that our high school days were too speedily drawing to a close. We tried to make up for lost time by studying lots harder and participating in as many functions as possible. The talent of the seniors was clearly evident in the activities of the Choral Ensemble. This group was invited to sing at numerous occasions-including two appearances on television. The selection of the operetta, The Fortune Teller, by Victor Herbert gave another opportunity to show off talent. Finally came the big day of ordering our graduation invitations and name cards. We were measured for our caps and gowns which was another big thrill for us. On April T3, some of our class members were honored by being received into the National Honor Society. Also in the spring came the annual senior trip. ln the absence of Sherman Moist, Thomas Slasor acted as faculty advisor for the trip. He planned a new route which included sight seeing tours through Washington, D. C., a cruise on the Potomac and finally a stay in New York. While in New York we saw the Broadway productions Pajama Game and Pipe Dream. We returned to Delaware for Easter and the group reported the trip to be a very enjoyable adventure. This year it was our turn to be the guests at the annual Junior-Senior banquet and prom which was held on May eighteenth. We could not help but remember all the work that we did last year for our treat to the seniors, and this made us enjoy the work of the juniors all the more. Following the Junior- Senior came the Senior All Night Party. It started at twelve o'clock with a snack followed by a movie in the Willis auditorium. After the movie the group enjoyed a second snack in the school courtyard. The snack period was followed by a short intermission during which all went home to change to play clothes. Next came the trip to Holiday Hill where we enjoyed square dancing, boat riding and breakfast. lt was a night of fun, dancing and laughter, a night to remember and one that will live forever in our memories. Traditions of Willis demand that this Junior-Senior be the last social event of the year, so therefore it was with a note of sadness that this night came to an end. The commencement activities of early June brought to a close a very busy year. Baccalaureate was held on June 3, a very impressive service. We turned in our textbooks and locks for the very last time, and on June 6, marching down the aisle of Gray Chapel, our high school days were officially over. With a trace of moisture in our eyes, we brought our high school careers to a close. The years have passed quickly. Now it is all past and we stand on the threshold of a beckoning world. We are preparing to step onto the crowded road of life and in doing so, we cannot help feeling full of sorrow and regret. We dare not dwell in the past, and may the members of the class always remember the lines from Longfellow's poem, The Rainy Day : Be still sad heart and cease repining, Behind the clouds is the sun still shining.
