Delaware Willis opened its 1950 football sci- son with a new coaching staff: Dave Rayburn. head coach, Len Visci, line coach: and Robert McFarland, backfield coach. The change from a T formation to a single wing had a telling eff fect, for Delaware won its first game from Co' lumbus St. Marys Our defensive play held West Jefferson to fortyftwo yards and another win. Urbana visited Delaware only to be defeated. This was our first C.B.L. win and our third straight victory. Delaware walloped Bexley in our second C. B.L. game of the season. This was the second time in nineteen years, but the win was costly because our two fullbacks were injured and failed to regain top form during the rest of the season. Friday the 13th was our unlucky day. We journeyed to Mt. Vernon only to be defeated. The team seemed to have fumbleitis for we Maggard. B. Martin, B. Claphan. J. Lynn, S. Davis, T. johnson. C. C-orgas, J. Espenshied. D. Mitchell, D. Martin, Coach Visci. 4th row: Coach McFarland, Coach Rayburn, VVing, D. Vv'ood, D. Burke, -I. Newell, D. Hause, B. Vv'atson. C. Flemming, G. Shaw, B. Tilden, S. Vvlilf hams. L. Smith, I. Wieser, I. Wlilliamson, H. Mascli- mann. fumbled five times a shadow away from the goal line. The following Friday Upper Arlington ruined an otherwise perfect homecoming by defeating us with the same score at Mt. Vernon. By his terrific offensive and defensive play, the All' Ohio AllfAmerican back, Doug Goodsell, showed that he was just as good as his newspaper clip- pings stated. The next three games were lost to Grandview, London, and Marysville. There is some irony to these defeats, for Willis outplayed every one of these teams only to be defeated late in the fourth quarter. Although we lost five games and won only four, the team had plenty of spirit and made every team who won from them fight for that win. Dex Martin and Bob Maggard were both chosen for all-C.B.L. honors, and Dex was voted the most valuable player by his team mates. Only seven seniors left the squad this year The DELO SCREW PRODUCTS, among the school's most loyal supporters of athletics, lend their support to the Delhi by again sponsoring this page. Page 66
