The baby sophs are taken from their homes very early on a Saturday morning and dresses in bibs, diapers, baby bonnets, bottles, rollers, and pacifiers. The sophomores must do whatever their kidnappers order or they are punished. Before the initiation begins the baby sophs are taken out for breakfast. Some sophs had before-breakfast contests such as a contest to see who can hold the most salt in their mouths, in order to get the best bottle. The losers received bottles containing goodies such as vinegar, baby formula, and buttermilk. Then came dessert-raw egg yolk, veal, spinach and many other delicious baby foods which the stubborn baby sophs were forced to eat. For some sophs, if the baby food wasn't suitable, they could have a special chocolate treat-not knowing that it was really chocolate fla- vored Ex-Lax. As the initiation continued the baby sophs had to do many activities such asg chinese fire drills, calisthenics, jogging down Rice Street, apply for jobs, buy magazines, and the funniest of all was to go to Spooner Park, Not just Spooner Park, but Spooner Park filled with Juniors, Seniors and photographers. At the park the defenseless baby sophs were covered with eggs, water balloons, molasses, ketchup, mustard, peanut butter, flour, vase- line, shortening, kitty-litter, cotton balls, shaving cream, lipstick, baby food, buttermilk, and vinegar. After being beautified, the sophs were taken to well known houses of Senior guys where they were to recite love poems. All was ended by a homecoming where the baby sophs were chased down their street by a honking car. What does it all lead to? Next year, of course. Then all the former sophs will remember the great times they had early that Saturday morning, as they plan for their revenge! Starting in upper left hand corner going counter clock wise. p. 2. 'S Z9 1 tmp T Homecoming Week Begins With Skits Homecoming skits at Kellogg this year were a chance for students to decide which candidates they wanted for King and Queen. Each skit involved one King candidate and one Queen candidate. The skits were held on Monday October Qth. Doing the first skit was Kurt Eckstrom and Shelly Noland, whos skit was a Toga party and a recovery of their kidnapped King Kurt. The next skit was Mark Bigelbach and Didy Berg- grens. lt was about the two headed people from Spring Lake Park and the one headed people from Milo Gaul. The one headed searched for Didy in the woods. Tim Tierney and Anne Hessbergs skit portrayed the kidnapping of Tarzan Tim and of Jungle Annies long search for him in Hollywood. At the end Jaws coughed up the answer. Next was Pete Donovan and Cindy Polski whose skit was much like Saturday Night Fever Disco Pete found the perfect dancing partner Cindy, and won a very important contest. The final skit starred the candidates Karen Berg- strom and Mark Sowada. Their skit was a search for the returning of school spirit, and despite many sug- gestions, the only solution came Karen, swung by a rope into Mark's arms. When the chargers were victorious over the Spring Lake Park Panthers. Both teams were tough on defense in the 2nd quarter which was scoreless. The chargers came out tougher then ever 3rd quarter in both offense and defense. Thanks to coach Hus- tad's advice during half-time, Tom Knox made two terrific plays which put the chargers well ahead of the Panthers. The winning goal was kicked by Bob Martin, ending the game in a final score of 24-6. ,4-F v 7 xx? up . ,. W J ff, u. ,S'5'3 4' ,f ff .uv 3 A A :fl 4 f hammwfg' l u asf? The school li- brary was converted into Gaul's Place-excIu- sive restaurant for Seniors. Patrons had a choice of steak or ribs. The faculty served as waiters, waitresses, and all other necessary people to serve the many seniors. Entertain- ment was provided by Mike Haagenstad and Glen Everhart. Though the food was mediocre, it was a fun time for all. Prom 1978 KeIlogg's 1978 Junior-Senior Prom was held May 27th at the Marquette Ballroom in the Minneapolis IDS Building. Breaking from tradition, students had the option of attending a buffet dinner hosted by the Marquette Inn before the dance. Or, if they chose, they could go to the dance alone which lasted from 8-12 PM. Music at the dance was provided by Masquerade, a local band made up of Kellogg and Mounds View graduates. Mrs. Janis Hess was the advisor and PTA representative. The prom committee, headed by Vicki Burton, along with Chris Maas, Beth Sandholm, Martha Hoover, Kathy Engebretson, Nancy Faffler and Jeanne Lensch did a good job of putting together a memorable evening. -sf 1 i . - SE , A, Q a : V 1' 1 Tp F w -246: ' ,.w4,zzx f f -H+ mm' f ez ,fx qw:-Q, f 3- 1 MQ ' z 23 1978 Graduation VI ,, swf f 4 Ki -aw V , , A ilk lr E x 1 i m g is - ,Q la 4. Music 1 Marching Band Kellogg's marching band enjoyed a very successful season this year. A new, more impressive style of marching was used that included soloists and more intricate marching designs. This years band was also Kellogg's largest, with 64 instrumentalists, 11 drummers, a flag corps of 18, a rifle corps of 6, and two drum majors. The band began practicing in mid-August, playing from 4:45 to 6:30, three times a week. The practicing came to a climax when they performed a halftime show at the homecoming game on October 13. The band also showed support for other sports by playing at Football, soccer and Volleyball games, and girl's swimming and boy's gymnastics meets. The director for this year's marching band was the seemingly tireless Les Lueck. -,ka i 1 V . l -Z f'Svl 31 intl' Marching Band 1978: Flutes- Lisa Drage, Karlene French, Ann Grotenhuis, Missy Hintz, Lisa Jessup, Kathy Krebs, Mary Lindholm, Kathy McGraw, Deb Thunhorst.
