DENTAL EXAMI NATIONS Dr Swartley the dentIst who was at school last year also came thIs year to examIne our teeth He checked the teeth of the pupIls In grades one three IIVG seven and nIne He also brought along a nurse who recorded the report of our teeth There were only a few mouths whIch were perfect CHRISTMAS CAROLING The Thursday afternoon b fore ChrIstmas vacatIon seventh to tenth grades boarded two busses and started out ChrIstmas carolIng Bro Arthur Ruth went wIth us to conduct devotIon at each home We went to the Colmar Home Delp Home and Blosch Home We arrIved back at school about 3 o clock The followIng Fruday evenIng grades nIne and ten left school at 8 o clock In a canvas covered truck bound for Allentown There we met Bro Walter Hackman who guIded us to the government settlement and the Good Shep herd Home In song we told the people In these homes about the bIrth of ChrIst the KIng GIRLS PHYSICAL EDUCATION PERIOD Had you vIsIted our school thls year durIng a physIcal educatIonal perIod you mIght have seen the gIrls out on the macadam takIng exercIses under the leadershIp of SISIGF Horst After the GXSFCISCS we may play eIther softball or volleyball If the weather does not Interfere When the weather does not permIt these outsIde OCIIVIIIGS Indoor games such as pIng pong carrom and checkers are played THE CLOCK ln December eIghth grade studIed about the wrItIng and pubIIcatIon of newspapers In EnglIsh Class To help us understand thIs process we pub lrshed a Chrustmas Issue of The Clock ThIs name was submItted by Abram Godshall and was chosen as the best by the class Davld Yoder was elected edItor In chIef and Glenda Godshall was chosen as assIstant edItor Issues of The Clock were handed to the audIence at the doors the nIght of the ChrIstmas program BUILDING A LIBRARY New books were purchased for the use of the pupIls In all the grades Some of the books were Introduced In a FrIday devotIon perIod on February 24 Others were Introduced later In EnglIsh classes by SISICF Horst and Bro DetweIler New book shelves had been buIlt earlIer In the school year They were placed In the hall In the nInth and tenth grade home room and the seventh and eIghth grade home room These shelves have been a bIg Improvement In the school and the new books have proved InterestIng and enjoyable 47 r 1 1 1 I f I ' D . . THE TELESCOPE An unterestung and educatuonal project of nunth and tenth grades was the constructuon of a telescope There are two kunds of telescopes a reflector and a refractor We chose to purchase a reflector because ut was more economucal and yet suutable for our needs Murrors were bought from a New York concern and other parts such as pupes were secured from a plumber Durung scuence classes the boys wuth Bro Hertzler s able assustance assem bled the varuous parts It us to be used at our Stellaruan meetungs PING PONG TOURNAMENT Near the begunnung of the school year ut was suggested that we have a pung pong tournament Those who wushed to take part un the tournament sugned the paper and eagerly awauted theur turn to play When the semu funals ended un February the champuons of the grades were the followung Seventh boys Robert Kramer seventh and eughth gurls Dorothy Landes eughth boys Abram Godshall nunth boys Homer Detwuler and nunth and tenth gurls Mary Lapp After three excutung games between Mary Lapp and Homer Detwuler Homer proved humself to be the better player SENIORS INVITED OUT On the evenung of February I8 Mrs Horst entertauned the senuors at a bean was forfeuted each turne the pronoun I was used Other games such as costumung a partner wuth newspaper bouler burst and twenty questuons were also played and after the refreshments were served the gurls left wuth happy Good Nughts SKATING PARTY Eagerly the students of nunth and tenth grades awauted the evenung of February 28 Thus was the nught of the skatung party whuch had been planned for us by our teachers Our eagerness almost turned to anxuety as snow began to fall but Iuckuly for all concerned the snow stopped and the skatung party began as planned Tured but happy each returned safely to hus home SEVENTH GRADE HOBBY CLUB The F M S Seven us the hobby club whuch meets every Fruday un seventh grade Englush class The purpose of thus club us not only to duscuss our hobbues but also to learn how clubs and busuness meetungs are conducted Every four weeks we elect new offucers The presudent appounts a program cornmuttee to arrange programs for the next four weeks We have had some unterestung programs Paul Wusmer brought hus hamsters one day and told us all about rausung hamsters Bro Hertzler gave cu talk on photography hus hobby He told us how to use a lught meter and how to develop puctures Wayne Clemens showed us hus callectuon of stamps whuch us hus hobby Many of us un the seventh grade have receuved new udeas for hobbues from these meetungs 48 I . . . , .
