B BASEBALL Led by superior hilling and pilching lhe I952 B baseball leam won lour slraighl games over Lulher, lake For- esl, Lalin and Norlh Park. We scor- ed an average ol live runs per game and allowed lhe opposilion only lwo runs, largely unearned. The leam's balling was led primarily by lour sophomores who bailed aboul .450 for lhe season, and lhe freshmen held up lhe pilching end successfully. We were shul oul in our lasl game, a re- lurn conlesl wilh Lulher, I-0, in whal was perhaps lhe besl played game ol lhe year, regardless ol lhe oulcome. The leam record is lhree wins and four losses. Credil musl be given lo Barney's coaching which proved invaluable during lhe lense momenls of lhe games. Credil musl also be given lo lhe members ol lhe sollball leam lhal' regularly allended praclice and spark- ed lhe leam lo ils viclories. TENNIS This spring, 'lhe lennis leam looks forward lo an even more successful season lhan Iasl' year's, when we finished second in lhe league lournamenl. We have a new coach, Mr. Parkhill, who gives promise of being lhe besl lennis coach lhe school has ever had. The leam, wilh lhe excep- lion of one member, is inlacl from lasl year, and is play- ing well in praclice.

However wi-th a revived deferminafion fhe baskef bail foam won fheir nexf game by one pofnf and easily won fhe fhird game. ln fhe fourfh game fhe squad puf up a sfrong flghf againsf fhe league's defending cham- pions, buf again losf in fhe final minufes of fhe game. ln fhe nexf confesf, fhe Colonels came back from almosf complefe defeaf fo fie fhe score af fhe final whisfle. However, fhe squad could nof mainfain fhe momen- fous pace achieved in fhe final quarfer, and losf by fhe slim margin of fhree poinfs in fhe season's firsf overfime period. However, fhey found fheir opponenfs as equally ambifious, and in anofher close game fhe Colonels losf again in an over- fime by fwo poinfs. The feam hoped for a surprising comeback in fhe Tournamenf, buf fheir deferminafion was delf a sfaggering blow in fhe firsf round. Alfhough fhe sea- son ended wifh only fhree vicfories in eighf league games and a slighfer disadvanfage in fhe fofal season's sfandings, one cannof call fhis a disappoinfing season, for noi' in one game were fhe Colonels complefely defeafed unfil fhe final whisfle blew, and TEAM: H.
