MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT The math department at Lewis has sought to prepare students to take their place in a mathematics-based society. Mr. Rosenthal, chairman of the de- partment, has formulated a five point program towards this end. His aims are to teach the skills needed in many non-technical iobs, to prepare stu- dents for college math, to teach students those skills needed in science courses, to imbue a feeling for the reasoning inherent in mathematics, and to facilitate an understanding of the role of mathematics in our life and times.
