Science is simply common sense at its best-that is, rigidly accurate in observa- tion and merciless to fallacy I in logic. T. H. Huxley DR. JEROME METZNER CHAIRMAN BIOLOGY AND PHYSICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENTS The Commercial Department, under the supervision ot Mr. Walton, alters a variety of courses to all students. To quality for the commercial diploma, students are trained in any two ot the major commercial fields- Accounting, Secretarial Studies, and Distributive Education. Commercial courses are designed to develop a useable skill which can provide income after graduation. The purpose of the Department of Biological Sciences, headed by Dr. Jerome Metzner, is to provide the student with a basic understanding ofthe world of living organisms. The department encourages students to attempt individual research or projects. For those who exhibited considerable ability and interest in biology, there were two elective courses which were available in the Junior or Senior year: Microbiology and Proiect Biology. In addition, the department's own magazine, the Biology Journal published many articles written by the students on modern topics in biology. The physical sciences involve an intensive study ot every aspect ofthe relationship between life and its environment. Chemistry and physics courses are aimed at an orientation and exploration process ot learning tor those students with an interest in science and a desire for a 'Balanced education. Mr. William Rassiga, department chairman, believes that a science education is a basic necessity in the advanced technology system ot the present, not only to students having aptitude in science, but also to those students interested in the humanities. --'fit' . h - ws...
