I 5 ELLIPSIS EDITORS THE PATRIOT This year's Patriot presented an accurate, yet concise picture of Lewis activities. The controversial Issue of the Month column, unique in high school journalism, was carriecl each month, touching on such school topics as a Lewis football team, and expressing views on contemporary problems like the Civilian Review Board. Once again, the Patriot en- tered the Columbia Scholastic Press Contest and won a first prize rating. The Patriot played well the role of spokesman for intellectual and educational freedom at Lewis. ENGLISH DEPARTMENT In addition to its required courses this year, the English Department offered several new programs. One such was the senior extra-honors class, designed to expose students to the types of literature found on the college level. Another innovation this year was the class in contemporary drama. As in the past, excellent courses were available in journalism and creative writing. Mr. Lodato, chairman of the department, feels that such programs as these have helped to broaden the interests of our students. FIRST ROW E. Jaffa, H. Rosenberg, M. Butti, A. Lodato, Chairman, M. Putting the Yearbook together was a great responsibility for each of the students of the class of '67, The Yearbook will serve as the ticket, whereby in future times, they can take a trip back to their youth. The Yearbook staff welcomed this responsibility and the work it entailed. We, the staff of Galaxy '67 , had the satisfaction of seeing our ideas materialized as the Yearbook was trans- formed from a pile of papers into a beautiful collection of memories. Often we had a feeling of hopelessness as our aims seemed unattainable. Despair changed to anticipation as we entered the home stretch and our revered goal was iust out of reach. All of us on the staff feel we have received tangible benefits from our efforts and would gladly do it again. The personal satisfaction we have gained, and the friend- ships we have made, cause a nostalgic Galaxy staff to say, Thanks for the memories.
