Art Draws Us To The Top Many people get their creative juices flowing in the several art classes offered. This creativity, however, poses controversial questions. Should creativity be graded? How is the abstract concept graded? Students who bring a project, whether it be a painting or wood sculpture, form a mere visualization in the mind into a tangible object usually views the object as quite worth an A grade. But, when it is presented to the teacher for approval, the teacher sometimes grades it lower. Who's right? Clint Wiethop, senior, said, Art you can't grade because it is in your opinion of what is good and what is not. Obviously in a classroom situation it must be graded. The teachers decide how it is to be graded. Mr. Kneise grades on originality and creativity. If a question arises as to what the student tried to put across in the work, I'd probably discuss it with them, he said. Mr. Hickrod considers many facets when he grades: My evaulations are based upon design, quality, craftsmanship, and creativity. Should the teacher's own views go in the grade? Senior Dave Armitage said, I think they should grade on craftsmanship, but also put their opinion in it. I guess they knowlwhat's good and bad from experience. tKim Ashleyi Tyrone Pollard looks on while Travis Ray shapes a ceramic bowl. Art 97

Math Math Math Math Math Math Math Math Math Math Mathematics , Sum Up Mathematics changed the numbers of teachers this year by the addition of two new people to the department. Mrs. Delores Heeger and Mr. Michael Orth are the new faces. Both have shared the algebra classes and each has taught some of the basics during the year. Unlike some math departments around the city and state this year, the department held steady in enrollment in the upper level classes. At the same time the increased state requirements in math have seen an increase in numbers of students taking the practical courses offered, such as the pre-algebra, shop and business math.
