Ladies Lea The Lady Panthers made it all the way to the championship game for the sectional title, but were defeated by the Memorial Tigers, 46-39. In spite of their disappointing loss to Memorial, the ladies had a winning season with a record of 22-9. This year's team was gifted with excellent senior leadership, Luanne Montgomery goes up for two against , Mater Dei at home. Between two Wildcats, Kim Overfield puts in an easy basket. commented Coach Weber. Kim Overfield and Belinda Cardin were team captains. In their playing, the entire team was very unselfish, and worked very well together. All of these factors were instrumental in allowing the team to have the record they obtained. Girl's Varsity 91

Jeff Flener, Matt Volk- Senior Matt Volkman displays top form On the court. Matt's record was 9-5. Coach Kelley: I've enjoyed this year working these tennis players, the season was a real success. Competitive Team Led By Seniors First year tennis coach Ron Kelley's team got off to a slow start, but finally got on track by winning two in a row from Mater Dei and Central. The team had a good showing in the Gibson Southern Tournament by placing second out of four teams. Senior Matt Volkman took top honors by placing first in the singles division. By the close of his first season, coach Ron Kelley said, We are playing the best tennis that I can possibly expect and are competitive with most teams in the city. The boys team finished out the '86 season by placing fourth in the eight team SIAC Tournament. Seniors Kemp Layden and Scott Bennett placed third overall in doubles. Steve Warner and Shane McFadden took home fourth place ribbons each. 92
