W W t m of orlzons xpan There are many gifted and talented students in this world, but many of them are hidden beneath the demands of trivial schoolwork. A program to challenge these minds, Hori- zons was offered for the first time at Reitz this year. Incoming freshman who had taken I.Q. tests and written papers in grade school to pos- sibly be chosen to participate. These kids are at the top of the C-levels, said Mrs. Sharon Tuggle, the English depart- ment head. Although able to be in the top ranks of their classes, Mrs. Tuggle said that the stu- dents' grades possibly hide their potential. In Horizons, they perhaps like the curriculum bet- ter and they flower. Alot more is asked of them, but these stu- dents who are in Horizons now can follow it through the next years in high school, rather than have to meander through trite courses. Business Offers The business department has undergone many changes this year. With the retirement of Mrs. Marlin, the staff has been cut, but many new classes were offered for the first time. One new class this year is the Accounting Lab. It took over last year's Accounting five and six. The Accounting Lab is two periods; one period they use their books, the other is spent using computers. Another new class this year is Business Communications. This class was offered last year but it couldn't meet enrollment. It can be used as an English elective to meet English requirements or as a business class. Speedwriting is another new Class offered in the business area. By relating sounds and Senior Kenny Kebortz looks at the computer in deep concentration. K. Angermeier R. Beadle R. Hopper D. Toone Business 100 Business Business Business Business Business Business Business New Classes symbols, instead of just symbols, Speedwriting is much easier to learn than Shorthand. Also offered this year is the Secretarial Intensive Lab and the Clerical Intensive Lab. The Clerical Intensive Lab is a two period, two semester senior level course for students following the clerical sequences. The Secretarial Intensive Lab is also two period, two semester course for students on the secretarial sequence. These classes are taken to find jobs in offices. He also teaches gym classes, is the line coach for the football team, and is assistant wrestling coach. Kristin Oates and Sherrill Hopple taking their laps.
