Kemp Layden serves up another point. Bright Spots Two bright spots made this season more enjoyable for the boy's tennis team. It was, however, a season without many bright spots. They finished with a 1-9 record. One of the bright spots was Matt Volkman, the number one singles play- er. He was a candidate for AlleSIAC hon- or. In coach Schmidt's eyes, the other bright spot was the big improvement in the play of the team. Although only 1-9, the squad became competitive during the season. That cul- minated in a first round win in the sec- tional. They defeated North Posey High School, but they were stopped by North in the second round. The doubles team showed vast im- provement over those of the past sea- sons. Leaders were Joel Hunter, Rob Hochstetler, Mark Busby, and Tom Bar- ron. Varsity.
