Panthers share City and SIAC This year varsity gridders compiled an impressive 8-1 record but failed to gain a berth in the, IHSAA play-off for the first time in 3 years. Under the leadership of new head coach Bob Ashworth, who took over after the resignation of Bob Padgett last season, the Panthers knocked off one of Kentucky's top rated teams, Henderson County in the rain34-20 for the first win of the season. In the second game Reitz had to muster up all the tradition they had to come from behind to dump J effersonville 17-14 after Senior Chuck Weston broke loose for a big gain to set up the winning score. The Panthers continued to rack up wins over Harrison, Central, and Castle before they came up against Memorial who handed Reitz their first regular season loss in 30 games. The varsity squadiinjshed the season with a Win over west, side foe Mater Dei and whipped North to end the season on a high note. Reitz final spark for a play-off spot dwindled when Columbus East and Bloomington North both won tough games in the final weekend of the season to secure their place in the play-offs.
