So come with me, on the wings of time and whiz back to the year of ’46 when the now dignified Seniors, were entering the friendly halls of Valdese High for the first time. We were green, but willing to learn freshmen. Our teachers were Mr. Spainhour, Miss Goins, Mr. Gotten, Miss Ghigo, and Miss Pyatt. Mrs. Halton, Miss Hardin, and Mr. Clayton the first semester and Mrs Grill, Miss Cline and Mr. LaFevers the second. Mrs. Wilson began her Vocational Guidance work and the F. H. A. Club was organized. In out Sophomore year, new teachers were Mr. Honeycutt, Mrs. Rowe, Mrs. Miller and Mr. Barger. Our English Club worked hard to get the movie projector and shades for the school. At Christmas the long awaited Home Economics Building was completed and we proudly moved into it, giving the High School more room. Our Junior year brought new activities. We put out two editions of the school paper, but our most important task was sponsoring the Junior- Senior Banquet. The debating club, the Sigma Delta Pi and the football club were organized. We took up two new courses, typing and French. Mrs. Sadye Barger, Miss Jennie McNaull, Mr. Robert Gourley, Mr. Donald Johnson, Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Myra Braswell were the new teachers. Now the year we were all waiting for is here and we take our place as Seniors. This year we were almost as lost as were the freshmen, for not only were the 7th and 8th grades moved over to the high school, but eighteen new rooms were added during the summer, including a sound proof band and chorus room. Latin, for the first time is being taught, the ‘‘V” Club and the Women ' s Athletic Club were formed. Seventh and eighth grade teachers are Mrs. Mull, Mr. Owens, Mrs. Brinkley and Mrs, Grill. Our new teachers are Mr. John Johnson. Miss Eloise Marlowe, Miss Jane Caudell, Mrs. Mary Reep, Mr. Leo Brevard, and Mr. H. D. Mortez. There are 60 members in the senior class. We are all looking to the future. May it be happy, bright and free of wars and misery. Some of us will go on to college while for others this will be the last year of study. But what ever lies ahead in the future for each of us, may we never really stop learning, and may our memories of Valdese High always bring happy smiles on our faces and a warm feeling of friendliness about our hearts.
