The beginning of this treaty is traced back to an arduous 13 day summit meeting at Camp David in September 1979 when Pres. Jimmy Carter force- fully forged an agreement between Israel's Prime Min- ister Menachem Begin and Egypt's Pres. Anwar Sadat. ff Pres. Anwar Sadat Despite these agreements there was a continued dis- pute between Carter and Begin over new Jewish set- tlements on the occupied West Bank. Meanwhile, Sadat and Be- gin were given the Nobel Peace Prize for 1979 for their peace-making in the Middle East. The real prize is peace itseIf, Begin told Sadat. Sadat agreed saying it adds a new obligation on both of us to achieve peace. That obligation was ful- filled, with Carter's help. 'i Prime Minister Menachem Begin GOV. KING The Massachusetts gover- norship was won this year by a man who promised to raise the drinking age to 21, bring back the death penalty, and cut back the property tax by S500 million. Now, about four months after his election, Gov. King has realized very few of his goals. The drinking age will be raised to 20 as of April 9, 1979. Nothing has been done about the death penalty, and Gov. King is making many enemies in his effort to a- chieve his promised SSOO mill- ion roll back in property taxes. I Q. . GRADING CHIEF KEARNEY CHANCE Campus Police Chief Gerald F. Kearney resigned last Sept- ember to take a position with Tufts University. Kearney is now Head of Se- curity at New England Veteri- nary Center at the old Graf- ton State Hospital sight. ln his letter of resignation, Kearney said, A lot of soul- searching went into the deci- sion. Kearney had been with the college seven years as of April 1979. He said, I have had a very enjoyable relationship here with the students, staff and faculty. An acting chief still has not been named. But until one is named, Officer Frank Mis will continue to be in charge. has 2. lk V . , ,,..lfg,.Z.x As of 1979, Framingham State College has had a straight letter grading sys- 4 tem consisting merely of V -.--f A, B, C, D, and E. 1 A new marking system, 45 -,,, .1 explained in the Ram, has l i l. The S.G.A. accepted the proposed center last April 1978 and the proposal was then sent to F.S.C. Pres. Justin McCarthy for approval. He refered this proposal to the F.S.C. Board of Trustees' attorney to be checked for legality. The proposal was delayed at this point due to a ques- tion of funding for certain forms of birth control. Ex- ecutive Board met with Pres. McCarthy several times in October 1979 and disatisfied students picketed out- side his office. No f f CONFIDENCE Pres. Justin McCarthy Due to the controversy over the delayed gynecolo- gical center on campus, the S.G.A. voted No Confid- ence regarding Pres. Just- in McCarthy. This was the first time in the history of the school that this was done.
