TO THE SENIORS Because of the inexorable passage of time your four years on the hill will soon come to an end. Graduation will come also, but not just because time has passed. Rather, this achievement is yours because of the elfort and appli- cation which you have shown in using your abilities to carve out your college career. I am glad that success has come to you and that the advantages of a Framingham education are yours. I am glad, too, that you have brought so much to the college since you entered as freshmen. During your student days there has been great change-expansion in the physical plant, broadening of the academic program, increase in enrollment. During this time of rapid change it is good to know that you have done so much to preserve and enrich the time-honored traditions of Framingham while partici- pating enthusiastically in her growth and progress. I offer, then, congratulations for what you have achieved and thanks for what you have brought to the college. For the future, Mrs. McCarthy and I wish you every happiness, blessing and success. It is our hope that you will return often to the college of which you have become such an integral part. Dr. D. Justin McCarthy President ll

YT? I hope that four years from now when you look back over . . . the record of your college years you will have reason to be pleased with what you will read- not because there will be no mistakes or because you never made unwise deci- sions, but because you will be able to read progress, growth, improvement, and a deepening realization of yourself as a person between 1961 and 1965 fl This was the message sent to you as Freshmen four years ago. What do you read in your record? Each record shows the growth of one individual. But, your record is continuing in another chapter in which your individuality will be increas- ingly challenged by continued group interaction. You may lose your individuality in thoughtless conformity to a group, thereby relieving yourself of the responsibility of making decisions. You can retain a childish individuality which is preoccupied with self. You may develop a mature individuality in which you champion values greater than your own needs, in which individual freedom is not license to disregard human dignity. The development of values by which you live has not been easy in the past four years. It will continue to be hard for values come from a self, not from a situation. A. Carolla Haglund Dean of Women 12
