A SPECIAL UPJEUIE TO FRANCES J. CAVANAGH Sketch by: jan Zwerling When a leader decides to retire, one always finds difficulty in enumerating the endless positive qualities of that leader. Such is the difficulty which confronts your editors. A mere listing of professional-educational attributes would not do justice to our principal, Mr. Francis Cavanagh. Everyone knows of Mr. Cavanagh's long years of service, his rise through the teacher- administrator ranks, and of his genuine concern for the students of the Framingham public schools. A matter of public record can never truly indicate a man's worth to those whom he influences. Therefore, let's disregard formal accolades and concentrate on the man, Francis Cavanagh. Mr. Cavanagh never attempted to aggrandize himself at the expense of others. He is a true gentleman whose deep, per- sonal concern for North High, North's students, and his colleagues at North is paramount to him. To be brief, no man has dedicated himself so conscientiously and wholeheartedly to our school. His innermost feelings were always student oriented. Never did he make a decision that could be interpreted in any way except that his genuine concern and understanding of a situation resulted in that decision. Although many administrative decisions are felt individually, all can be assured the many difficult decisions handed down by Mr. Cavanagh were for the benefit of all. These administrative details were never resolved in an ivory tower manner. It is precisely this approach that displayed Mr. Cavanagh's penchant for administration. We need not justify, nullify, nor endorse all school matters. We need only look at the time, effort, and wisdom rooted in North High matters to discover the true personality of our principal, Mr. Francis Cavanagh. This leadership has created a legacy which has instilled a true North High Spartan attitude for our school, our leaders, and all who have attempted to shape our destiny. A most positive influence in these matters was Mr. Francis Cavanagh. Therefore, we the class of 1970 offer our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Mr. Cavanagh. Please accept this special tribute as a testimonial to a true educator, a loyal friend, and a great leader of North High.
