Their hearts filled with sorrow, the members of Barbara ' s class mourned their loss but found words inadequate to express their feelings to the Swift family. We can only repeat the words offered by Dr. George W. Crane a New York Herald Tribune columnist who experienced a similar loss when his young pilot son was killed. In August 14, 1956, he said So why did God snatch him (her) away from this Earth? is a natural question that comes to the minds of most people when they see a talented young person die. a note sent by a reader . . . When you go forth into your flower garden to pick a bouquet, you never select the withered and drooping flowers but always look for the brightest and gayest blossoms. Maybe God does that at times, too ! If Heaven is just an extension at a higher level of what we see here on Earth, then Heaven is not solely an Old People ' s Home. It must also contain babies and toddlers and teenagers and young people, as well as hoary headed Methuselah and Moses. Mrs. McConnon will soon terminate forty-two years of service to Framingham High School. Born in our neighboring town of Natick, Mrs. McConnon was graduated from Fram- ingham High School and received secretarial training at Bryant and Stratton College. In 1927, she became secretary to Mayo M. Magoon, Principal of Framingham High School. LEO C. LEVEILLE Mr. Leveille began his teaching career in Framingham in 1936. The holder of a Bache- lor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree from Boston College, Mr. Leveille completed additional studies at Harvard University and the Sorbonne in Paris. Mr. Leveille has taught both languages and social studies in Framingham and was made head of the language department in 1966. In addition to these academic concerns, he coached at Lincoln and Winch Park Junior High Schools. Mr. Leveille will long be remembered as a talented teacher of languages. YOU AR£TH£ BOU S FRO U WIO- YOUR CHILDREN AS UV!N£ ARROWS AR£ FORJR FACUUV AND ADMINISTRATION 13 TO MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1969 As your Class of 1969 reaches graduation day the individual members enter a new phase of their lives. Some will immediately join the ranks of working men and women. Others will begin relatively short courses in technical in- stitutes and junior colleges for training in specific areas. Some will join the Armed Forces of their country. More of our graduates will enroll in four- year degree granting institutions to prepare for the professions and eventually the world of work. Your life of work is just beginning. There is much to learn. On your graduation day your parents have every reason to be proud of your accomplishments and they may look forward to the greater achievements that are sure to come. We, your teachers at Framingham South High School, hope that we have contributed in some measure in the development of your per- sonality, in adding to your knowledge, and in the formation of those desirable attitudes and habits that are the foundation of personal success and the survival of our great democracy. May every member of the Class of 1969 set high standards of character and integrity for the classes that will follow you. We wish you success in your chosen field and may you have happiness and prosperity in your future life. Ralph J. Martin Principal 16 REWARD J. MORAN Mrs. Pauline P. We are now equipped with the education which is generally considered sufficient for lead- ing a good life. High school is over for the class of 1969- We can no longer return to the lockers and halls with the same spirit we once had. We can no longer recapture the warm, tingling sensation felt on a brisk, sunny Octo- ber day while cheering the football team on to victory. We can no longer experience the pain and worry of col- lege boards either. We are no longer high schoolers. Some react to this realization joyfully, others sorrowfully. High school has ended for us and decade has ended for the world. The year 1969 will close a period marred with turmoil and unrest. We have witnessed the assassinations of a President, a civil rights leader and a Senator. We are in the midst of a limited war which has damaged a political party, destroyed a President and threatens to rend this nation. We have fearfully watched our streets and college campuses. However, light still shine sthrough this gloom. We have experienced a growing concern with our fellow man, nationally and internationally particularly on the civil rights issues. We have seen a healthy questioning of this country ' s goals and methods. And we have seen the youth recognized as a viable force in this country. This has influenced us all. During the past four years we have begun to search, to question and to educate ourselves to the best of our ability. Our lives have thus far been molded for us by those people and those things around us. So far we have been told everything, caught in our little niche of the great educational process. Some have wiggled a little and been hurt; others have walked out of their niche and been crushed, but most have remained secure and peaceful. Now that process has come to an end. It no longer exists. We are now free. Now we can run our lives. But a major question confronts us, What is life? and closely allied to that question is another, What is it to me? These are the questions that we have just been freed to answer and explore. From the limited experiences available to us in high school we could not hope to resolve these questions, but now we have the entire world at our doorstep. What is life? It is a question that we are hardly qualified to answer. Great philosophers and theologians have tried to answer this simple inquiry. Socrates spent the major part of his life seeking the truth, never found it and was exe- cuted because of his quest. But fail as one may, it is each human ' s inbred duty to search for the solution — to experi- ment with his surroundings and to come to some conclusions. It is a painful and dangerous road. Much is de- stroyed and much is built, but that is certainly part of life. It is unfortunate that such a necessary question must re- main unanswered. What is life to me? What am I to do with my life. It may seem ridiculous to pose the second question without an- swering the first. Perhaps it would be easier to ask you, what do you plan to do with your life? This planet is covered with over two billion people. What is their relationship to me? A human being dies every six seconds of starvation; he dies because he cannot get enough to eat. Yet I have a garbage disposal in my kitchen sink. There are people killing people in a war because they cannot communicate. Yet I sleep fearlessly in my bed and speak of the generation gap. There are even brothers and sisters in this Family of Man that hate one another on sight because of their physical appearances. There are people dying to preserve freedom in this world, yet I com- plain because I am not free enough to stay out after twelve. There are injustices present in the world, none of which should be allowed to exist. In light of these facts, we once more ask ourselves, What are we going to do with our lives? 7I U MUEitER ClAQQ OP 1969 JANIS LEE AHMAD JIAN Friendship leads to confi- dence and confidence leads to success. Long years of study behind you, and a big wide world ahead. But even at that it isn ' t the final test — or the end of your learning. The biggest tests still face you in the choice and fulfillment of your life ' s work. Many plan for college, some must reckon with the armed forces. Others will seek positions in industry, trade, business. We, at Dennison, congra- tulate you on your past accomplishments; if your future plans call for steady employment or summer work, we ' ll be glad to discuss your problems with you. Our Employment Department will welcome the chance to outline op- portunities existing in our offices, factory, and warehouse. DENNISON Before you aeeept that first job . . . Look over your employer as ea re fully as he does you What ' s the Company like anyway? Would I be proud to work there? Reputation for square dealing with employees? Pleasant surroundings? Will I be working with others my own age? Are they friendly? Do they socialize after hours? Will the boss be reasonable? Appreciate good, hard work, but won ' t explode if I make a mistake? Will I make a decent week ' s pay? Have a chance for raises, advancement, more responsibility? How about fringe benefits? Is the work challenging? I had what it takes to get through high school. Will they give me a chance to use my brains? Note: Many young men and women in this area can answer Yes to these questions. They work for New England Telephone.
