Here students learn the techniques of building, pho- tography, magnetism, com- munications, and electricity, later to be used in their work or hobbies. Computer programming and solid state electronics are grow- ing fields the department explores: calculations at in- credible speed and devices streamlined of vacuum tubes. Using techniques learned, students construct boats and assemble a working televi- sion. Moderp (industrial) art. Mr. Farrell Mr. Krencisz 1

The Music Department means chorus courses, hours of rehearsals, and notes for the teacher; it is a football landing in a sousaphone at a football game; but most of all, it is Mr. Joseph Oneschuk. His talented musicians are heard at football games and athletic rallies, the Christmas assembly, music festival, senior play, Memorial Day Parade, National Honor Society Induction, awards assemblies, and graduation. In the music theory courses, fundamentals and techniques of music history and composition are taught. The classes must prepare a complete band score, played and conducted by the students. This course has also resulted in the composition of an original school alma mater and 1967 Class Song. The music appreciation classes are experimenting with a related arts approach in which music is integrated with the develop- ment of history, literature, and art. In the department marks may be scaled to retain harmony between student and teachers. 2-

TJocaiionaf Mrs. Helen Johnson Secretary The roar of gines, the hum the en- of ma- chines. This, and more, is Vocational. Designed for students planning to enter a trade directly after graduation, the school has grown under the direction of Mr. Joseph Keefe. Students alternate one week in shop and one week in class, specializing either in automotive shop, elec- tronics, or machines. Future mechanics dissect live cars, literally get- ting inside the subject. Electronic shop covers the commercial devices, like television sets, and more complex computer and sonar mechanisms. Machinists learn the tools and methods of working materials for useful ends, as well as how to control a temper (metallic). In short, Vocational has the most grinding curriculum at South.
