With a curriculum covering clothing to chefs, the Home Economics Department has grown out of its quarters near the cafeteria. So a Child Growth and Development class expanded into the boys ' dress- ing room. Whatever the loca- tion, the department, under the supervision of Mrs. Lillian Kreger, teaches courses in food and clothing, with pro- grams ranging from interior design to fashion design. Prac- tical work, guest speakers, and audio-visual aids supplemented academic study. Two hundred dozen eggs a year and two hundred pounds of flour at Christmas made food very real to cooking classes. There were the Betty Crocker Scholarship contest, and a Sterling Silver Award for the student with the best record of improve- ment. Student chefs visited a meat market, girls made Prom formals, and Mrs. Eldridge ' s class gave the annual faculty tea. For the lucky few, a soak- ing from a broken dish-wash- ing hose completed Practical Experience. (Ljconomics II ' IIH f Mrs. Whitten Miss Wiggins 25

Mr. Cotton, Director of Art Mr. Bagush Mr. Clancy Mr. Ritval 26 7irt Department In the art rooms student work is plainly visible on walls, doors, blackboards, and windows. Basics of art: paint, sculpture, carving, weav- ing, even advertising design are part of the curriculum directed by Mr. Neil Cotton. Each year, a stuffed owl and pheasant, used as models, become immortalized in hundreds of drawings; this year they were misplaced, briefly, to the grief of all involved. Inspiration came in Mr. Clancy ' s words, ut- tered over an incipient master- piece: It has possibilities. A few students returned for post graduate weaving courses; oth- ers trailed behind Mr. Forbes with supplies as he moved class- es from the vocational art room to B-15. Through the year, various teachers helped with school events, including the senior play, and es- pecially the Prom. In art, the stu- dent created — with paint, clay, paper, wood, and frequently, in- spiration.
