cience Mr. Clinton Mr. Gaucher . . . Tragedy also occurred; the skeleton in B-5 lost half a leg and an arm, many test tubes met their maker, and no physics student proved the Unified Field Theorem. At times the odor of sharks in biology laboratory threatened indiges- tion. But students learned principles, the scientific method, and, a lucky few, the Inverse Square Law. And what else is there to know? Weather-watching, dis- secting of earthworms, producing strange chem- ical odors, and tinkering with light: these activi- ties were all part of the science department. Dr. John Meegan coordinat- ed the teaching of gen- eral science, earth sci- ence, biology, chemistry, and physics classes. Not only study, but labora- tories, practical work, and, for biologists, tramps through nature were part of education. Mr. Jachowicz Mr. O ' Donnell Mr. Hester Mr. Tisde

Mr. Garrahan Department Head Mr. Christopher Garrahan and his Social Studies Department all believe in History. But unlike the Communists, who revere this same ideal, they are concerned with inter- esting students in the people and places of human society. To this end, courses ranging from Ancient and Medieval History to Sociol- ogy, Russian Studies to Economics are offered. In addition to the text, extra books are often assigned, speakers invited, and panel discus- sions held. Several of Mr. Kelley ' s classes held mock trials to study legal procedure; and un- der the only high school experimental program in the area, Mr. Zaido ' s geography classes featured a new urban approach. The United Nations scholarship contest in the spring of- fered outstanding students a chance to ex- hibit their knowledge. Facts were given inter- est and application: Washington braved the Potomac again, William had to conquer Eng- land once more, and Doctor Zhivago became consulting physician of the Russian Studies class. No ' necessary mathematics was too simple, no cal- Mr. Antell, Department Head cuius too difficult for de- partment head Mr. Rus- sell Antell and his asso- ciates to communicate. Pre-algebra prepared some for algebra which, along with geometry, ex- plored the complexities of numbers; review courses refreshed memo- ries, and advanced courses attacked the deepest analytical thought. Mr. DiVittorio offered an after school computer course using the electronic brains at Computer Control Com- pany in Framingha ' m. Mathematics, through new methods and even field trips, was never so much like rolling off a logarithm.
