PHILOMATH, a word of Greek origin meaning a search for knowledge, is the title that has been aptly given to our Framingham High School Yearbook. May its meaning be the continuous goal of every student. ADVISORS GIRARD D. McCONARTY Assistant Principal PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE We, the seniors of Framingham High School, have just walked for four years across the sands of time. Often it appeared to be an endless trek, but now that our goal is practically within our grasp, a peculiar sadness envelopes me and, I am sure, although few of you will admit it, all of you. This is the parting of friendships which, had time and interests, not interfered, would have lasted throughout eternity. The experiences in which we have participated have molded an integral segment in our lives which time will never disintegrate. High school has offered much to all; some have benefited more than others through self-sustained efforts, but nevertheless all had the same opportunities. We will never be able to show enough gratitude to the people of Framingham for the opportunities such as modern school facilities, the best teachers possible, current teaching methods, fine administrators, and most of all, the deep interest that they have shown in us. Although formerly appearing contrary, they have always had our best interests at heart. Through the efforts of these people, we are much better prepared than we were four years earlier to enter society as responsible citizens. Let us forge ahead to greater heights that will be indicative of the training they have so generously bestowed upon us. As a representative of my class, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our class advisor, Miss Riley, whose guidance has enabled us to stand out among Framingham ' s graduating classes; Mr. Martin for his understanding and to you, my classmates, for the honor you have bestowed upon me by making me your president. Goo d luck to each one of you, 8 The Class of 1962 has the distinction of being the largest to graduate from Framingham High School during its long existence. This class has been most cooperative during the difficult years of overlap sessions, and rotating double sessions made it necessary by the over-crowded conditions in our secondary schools. While it is apparent that future classes will be larger, the achievements of this class are impressive. Members of the group have brought honor to themselves by maintaining fine academic records commensurate with their abilities. Many have participated with distinction in the numerous activities in the school conducted by the Student Council. The fine performances of the senior play cast, science quiz team, clubs, musical organizations, publication staffs, athletic teams, and other extracurricular groups were made possible by the contributions of members of your class. You have contributed a great deal to fhe activities of Framingham High School. In the years to come, much Will be heard of the fine achievements of the Class of 1962 in the fields of education, the professions, and the other numerous fields of endeavor in adult life. I feel sure that the members of this class will give service that will be a credit to themselves, their parents, the school, and the community. We extend to you our most sincere wishes for your future success. PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE FAMILIAR 10 Mrs. Donovan DEDICATION 7 1 of ij C Ri eij To Miss Riley: We of the Class of 1962 express our sincerest gratitude and that of previous classes for your many years of devoted service as a teacher in the Fram- ingham Schools. We would like to thank you espe- cially for the thoughtful guidance that you have given to our class. Our best wishes shall always be yours. SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS The spring of 1961 saw a new event in the history of Framingham High School. I was continually impressed by seemingly ridiculous questions, asked in all sincerity, such as, Does every member of an American family own a car? People of foreign countries know very little of our everyday life, and we must claim perhaps greater ignorance of theirs. This is why AFS is so important. The overall purpose of AFS is the exchange of knowledge and experience by teenagers living in families abroad and participating at first hand in the intimate life and thoughts of another country. However, the pro- gram is not like a one-way street. It is a reciprocal agreement. In return for the tremendous honor, privilege, and responsibility vested in me last summer I agreed with pleasure to relate the impressions of my travels. The greatest lesson we can derive from the Norwegians is awareness of other countries. Americans seem to centralize their thoughts in the ir own country and lose the perspective of the entire world scene. In conclusion I would like to thank the student body for its generous support of the American Field Service as evidenced by the collection of more than four hundred dollars last February. I am sure that all of you who contributed are aware of its special importance in these especially troubled times, when it is urgent that all the free countries of the world unite in friendship and understanding. The AFS motto bears great significance: Walk together, Talk together, O ye peoples of the earth; Then and only then Shall ye have peace. PETER ALLEN Now has arrived the moment I was dreading when thoughts of farewells and goodbyes must come to mind. This year has been one of the greatest in my life with every new thing that I have learned about the United States. I will never forget my first school-day which was rather confusing, but with the help of all the swell classmates, the building was made familiar to me. Something all the F.H.S. ' ers can be sure of is that in the coming years, although thousands of miles away, I will be cheering for you in the Thanksgiving Game. I am proud of having been an F.H.S. ' er, and I hope that this friendship will remain as warm and prominent with each of you as it will be with me. I also hope that many other exchange students will have the same opportunity to enjoy your hospitality during their years at Framingham High School. I am very grateful for all you did for me, and the memory of this year will always be a part of my life. 132 EVELYN ARNDT Santa and his helpers. 133 JUNIOR PROM Mr. and Mrs. Martin dance to the musical strains of Don Russell and his Orchestra.
