The sales of F.H.S. book- covers, spirit-pins, and plastic shirts met with a great response from the student body. The Candy Sale, as usual, was a tremendous success, thanks to Mr. Bayes, to many eager sales-people, and to interested townspeople. The spirit of the Christmas sea- son was very much in evidence in the school for a few weeks prior to Christmas. Jimmy presides at the Executive Committee Meeting. Mr. Bayes, Advisor, and R. Spring brought with it a very en- joyable Council Dance, which was a fore-runner of the other activities of the late school year. For all of these well-organized affairs, we are truly grateful and most proud of a Council that has worked diligently to make this year a memorable one for all. Marlene Wollschlaeger J a 103 Angela. Marlene. and Tom. F.H.S Gerrv and Jimmy The Flyers were expected to have a poor year according to football experts, but the Thanksgiv- ing tie of ' 58 really ignited the squad. Th e team started off the season by walloping Wellesley. One highlight was a victory over Marlboro which broke its twenty-five game winning streak. As the season progressed, the Flyer of- fensive opened up while the defense stiffened to shut out three teams. The Fiver ' s defensive had the least points scored against it in the Bay State Conference. On Thanksgiving morning, the Flyers beat IVatick in every statistic, except for fumbles and then the final score. There were no individual heroes on the club: the team worked together for a season of six wins. Mr. Fornicari and Mr. Jachowicz 108 Jimmy starts on his 62-yard touchdown run. Flare-up! The Band and Majorettes deserve credit for their many contributions at the various games and rallies. The Majorettes, under Joyce Cella, Head Majorette, and Judy D ' Antonio, Band Majorette, devoted many hours to re- hearsing for performances. Band members are really good sports. The line. 112 Presenting the scroll. CHEERLEADERS With Diana Vitali as captain, our cheerleaders have been outstanding this season. In the halls of F.H.S. and at all the games, their inevitable school spirit and undying enthusiasm have spurred the teams on to many a victory. 27-42-56— Hike . . . Sandy! THE HOOPSTERS The Flyers, captained by play-maker Dave Cowern, had a successful season under the direction of Mr. Summers, whose knowledge of the game and ability to get the most from the players themselves left little to be desired. The quintet consisted of players as different as their names. Dave Cowern played an unidentifiable role in setting up most of the plays and many of the scores at the expense of personal gains for himself. Because of his constant hustle, Bill Carey was often able to bluff and steal the ball in the clutch. He added spark to the five. As a great scorer and rebounder, Chris Quirk will be remembered. Billy Phillips and Bill Gardiner both displayed much en- thusiasm and action on the courts. The reserves offered competition to the first stringers who, at a moment ' s notice, might be relieved by bench-men. All in all, this team ' s success was due to a fine coach, a good starting line-up, and ever-anxious reserves. The Varsity Squad. Captain Dave Cowern. Come on, boys . . . We ' ve got to win. A basket for F.H.S. 15 Carey jumps. We won again! 116 HOCKEY Coach Ed Loring ' s F.H.S. Hockey Team had an exceptionally good season, streaked with some bad luck. Led by Co-Captains Richie Tomassini and Charley Glew. the Flyers came in third place. To be noted was a tie with Wal- pole and two impressive wins over Natick. The first line of Tomassini. Glew, and Ted Casey totaled 63 points among them, the highest scor- ing trio in the Bay State League. On the flip of a coin, the Flyers missed out on the State Hockev Tournament to Norwood.
