II I I — n t - I I L J In Framingham High School each student is an important part of the school, regardless of race, creed, or economic and social background. Members of the excellent Class of 1959 realize that this is true, and the high quality of their records shows that they have all worked together toward achievements in the classrooms, on the athletic field, and in all types of extracurricular activities. If all young people of the world had similar opportunities, there would be much less misunderstanding throughout this world. Seniors are faced with the important tasks of taking over the many positions of responsibility from II I [ I a 8 f ] y . i members of the preceding class. At first, this appears to be an impossible task because of lack of per- sonal experiences. However, the class has undertaken those responsibilities, and its achievements, of an extremely high order, have brought much credit to the class and to the school. { | Graduation is not the end; in many respects, it is the beginning. There are many new experiences and opportunities ahead, not only for personal improvement and advancement, but also for service and assist- ance in the complex pattern of community life. As members of the class join the ranks of the many thous- ands of Framingham High School graduates and thereby become alumni of the school, may they continue to have the same ideals of service for others which have been shown in high school. As seniors you are leaving us as graduates, but you will not be forgotten. We are proud of what you have done and will do as you go forth into many types of occupations beyond high school. We wish you the very best by way of health, happiness, and complete fullness of life. We know that you will bring credit to yourselves, your parents, and your school by the quality and nature of contributions in the larger community of which you too will become a most important part. PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE CLASS OF ' 59 We, the Class of 1959, are most grateful to the faculty for the interest that has been shown in us at in our work during our school years in Framingham High School, old and new. As graduation approaches, many of us look back . . . remembering our experiences in high school. These are indeed fond memories and ones that we will not soon forget. With all the facilities of a new school, these have been numerous opportunities for us to participate in extracurricular activities. These have afforded us the chance to learn new things and to make many friends with similar interests. And now it is up to us to show our teachers, parents, and friends that our high school education can pay dividends when properly put to use. We are willing, ready, and able. ■ ■ ALBERT G. REILLEY RALPH J. MARTIN 8 Good Morning. Framingham High School. Certainly the school secretaries have helped our school years to run smoothly. These ladies have always been willing to supply information, to sell bus tickets, and to help pupils reporting to those office chairs. Their understanding of school problems has made them invaluable to administrators, faculty, and students, alike. Tune in tomorrow. 9 1 • ! I RUSSELL ANTELL FRED A. BAYES MARION A. My gratitude to all who have contributed to my hap piness cannot be under-esti- mated. I hope that both teachers and pupils still feel that the Foreign Exchange Program should con- tinue, and that, through the coming years, they will have many opportunities to show other foreigners the real picture of U.S. A , a picture of a friendly nation and an hospitable people. Thank you, one and all of F.H.S., for pur- chasing Shares in Democracy. Through your contributions I was enabled to spend the summer in Patras, Greece. Living with a new family, meeting more friends, both American and Greek, and forming close ties with people of an ancient civilization were experiences that can never be taken from me. My greatest responsibility, however, was that of representing the United States and its people, more especially you. This was one of the most difficult tasks because you, fellow classmates and friends, arc such a wonderful group. FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS AROUND THE SCHOOL Only a few left, people. This year our new library has been in constant use. Many more girls belong to the Library Service Club and have seen to it that all services have been made available to both stu- dents an faculty members. Our thanks go to Miss Lathrop, Miss Tait, and all the aides for their willingness to give of their time to help us. Is this it? ' The Band and th e Majorettes spend many hours following the teams through their victories and defeats. They devote much time in rehearsing before performances and are a real credit to Framing- ham High. We are indeed grateful to each and every member of a fine band and to the skilled majorettes. Keep your eye on the leader. 93 96 97 FLYERS ROCK The annual Battle for the Feathers game between Natick and Framing- ham came to an end in a 6-6 deadlock before thousands of fans. A 20 yard scoring pass from quarterback Fran Casey to fullback Gerry Maloney in the third quarter enabled the Flyers to stop their high-scoring Natick rivals. This move in the final moments of the game brought about the biggest upset in the Thangsgiving Day series. Directed by Coach Bob Jachowicz and his assistants, the Flyers gave a dazzling performance and brought about a fabulous finish to a defeat-loaded season. The rugged defense and tremendous trackling rocked the highly- favored Natick eleven. Both fans and players delighted in the fact that our team had prevented another Turkey Day slaughter. TEAM YEAH TEAM On any given day, a given team can be unbeatable, no matter what the previous record may show. A team that won ' t be beat, can ' t be beat. Undaunted by this rec- ord, the boys went on to win all but two of the remaining games. Thanks, to the fine coaching of Mr. Summers and the hustle and spirit of every player, the bas- ketball team placed third in the final league standing. Senior Scorers Cheer! ' Let ' s win! As the season progressed, Coach Loring and his pucksters improved defensively and de- veloped into one of the best offensive clubs in the league. Hockey spirit was high and many fans attended each game. This loyal backing enabled Framingham to place high in the Bay State League at the end of the season. Under the direction of Dick Lavin, the president of Student Council, this group has enjoyed a very successful year. With Mr. Bayes as faculty advisor, the committees in charge of the annual Candy Sale collected money later used for the Christmas Projects. In December, the Council planned and organized the Football Victory Dance to celebrate the Thanksgiving 6-6 tie with Natick. Before the Christmas vacation, committees were chosen to supervise the Christmas Projects. Many previous records were broken this year. In the spring, committee members labored long hours to guarantee the success of the annual Student Council Dance. The student body is proud of the Council which has worked so diligently to make this year such a memorable one. 113 Paee Six THE STUDENT CRIER handsome, cle sonality. have Carol vn and plans to . There are very few seniors in the , ' roup this year. It is composed mostly f freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, ast year, just the opposite was true. So this fall. Mr. Murray had to en- ist a large group of freshmen and ;ophomores to fill the gap left by the iraduatcd seniors. Through the hard vork of our bandleader, the group vas shaped into an excellent band. Perhaps one of the most unusual ncidents this year took place at the .Valpole game. As George Guagenty ells it, the spanking clean band was net by a dusly field which blew dust ill around them. At times, the band nembers could hardly see their music. That does make things difficult. Let ' s not forget our cute majorettes •vho lead our band on to victory at ?very game.
