t mjm % PRINCIPAL ' S MESSAGE The Challenge to the Class of 1958 The Class of 1958 moves on to graduation with distinction. Every class has pointed with pride to certain achievements during the years in high school, but to the Class of 1958 goes the distinction of not only establishing records of high degree, both academic and extracurricular, but also of being the first class to graduate from the new and inspiring high school building, made possible by the citizens of Framingham. During the final months of the senior year, the class has had the opportunity of enjoying to the fullest all of the expanded phases of school life provided by the various units included in the new building. In these United States we believe in free public education for every student, and to this end each community invests large sums of money and concentrated effort for making educational opportunities available to every boy and girl. The challenge to every graduate of every class is to so live that the people of Framingham and of all other communities will have an excellent return on their investment. Indications of the highest type of citizenship in adult life, as well as success in selected vocations are all returns on investments made by the supporting public. The challenge to the Class of 1958, therefore, is to so live that you will be a credit to your home, your school, and your community, and in so doing you will be a credit to yourself. That is the only investment return that is desired or expected by those who have done so much for every member of the class. HIGH PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE Our never-to-be-forgotten experience of high school is almost over. As members of the Class of 1958, we have been extremely fortunate. For two and one half years we attended the old Framingham High School with its long-standing traditions before moving to the new high school where we became the originators of new sets of traditions for the F.H.S. students of the present and future. Our close associations with both our classmates and the faculty have made our three years in high school most enjoyable. There have been many tireless and hard-working teachers who have aided us in setting and achieving goals along our high school road. Let us not forget the fine advice and the good example of those who have taken such an active interest in our development as the citizens of tomorrow. MR. BERNARD T. A transfer from Lyman, Mort took some while to adjust to our honor system. The miniature of the Battle of Gettysburg, all tattoed on his ' standouting ' left ear, has been pronounced by experts to be a rival of the Mona Lisa. He intends to earn his living by painting 6 ' s on watch dials. We wish him luck . . . the worst. Activities: Nothing that we care to mention. It has been a real happiness for me to have been in Framingham High School this year. I think that I could not find a second school like this one in my whole life. Everyone is so friendly to me. I feel as if each one is saying, Welcome, Mary. Now I am not a stranger; I am a F.H.S. student myself. I scream with the boys and girls at the games; I am happy when our team wins and I am sad when the team loses. I am never going to forget this wonder- ful school with its fine friends and its in- terested teachers. I ' ll always be wishing for the Flyers to beat Natick. STUDENT EXCHANGE After spending three marvelous months during the summer of 1957 in Karlsruhe, Germany, living closely with the German people, enjoying the everyday life, and traveling throughout the countryside, I have assimilated much first-hand information about life, customs, and government in the Old World. I am most grateful for this never-to-be-forgotten opportunity of living among the Germans, attending their schools, visiting their courts, and inspecting their factories, but most of all I enjoyed getting to know and appreciate the fr iendly ways of these people in a country far from home. During the summer Ed and his Senior Committee edited the Sophomore Handbook. Since we were moving, our bookcovers were designed with a floor plan to acquaint us with the new school, prior to our departure from Union Avenue. Next on the agenda was the annual fall Candy Sale, followed by the Football Dance at the close of the season. And then it was Christmas time! Time for our projects! Because of the generosity of all, we had one of the most successful Christmas Projects ever held at F.H.S. During the spring the Student Council sponsored the Spring Dance and with our moving had many opportunities to help all make a better adjustment. To the many conventions held at this time, we sent delegates. From these conventions new ideas and solutions to old problems were conveyed to our delegates, who, in turn, shared the same with the student body. And so another profitable year has passed under the Student Council and for us, the students of Framingham High. Pom-Pom Committee. Candy Sale Winners. FRAMINGHAM FLYERS CHRISTMAS ATF.H. Mr. Bayes and the chairmen of the various committees were proud to report that 3,267 cans of food were donated to the Salvation Army, while 226 bags of toys and clothing were delivered to the needy people of the town. Many cartons of toys and clothing were sent to the children in the Reformatory nursery, and Save the Children Federation was pleased to receive 36 bags of clothing. CARE was able to send 420 packages overseas as a result of our money donations. To add to the enjoyment of the evening, various committees worked long and hard to prepare suitable decorations and refreshments for those in attendance. To climax a grinding football season, the Football Dance was held to honor the coaches and men of the Flying ' 57 team. M-C and the Band 4 0 3° It The Maiorcttei sing. In addition to their fine music, we all agree that the new uniforms added dis- tinction to this well-known group. Patricia Lavallee Band Majorette MAJORETTES Adding color and excitement to the ' 57- ' 58 sports year at F.H.S. were our spirited majorettes. CHEERLEADERS e Ir ft it JMM Much of the spirit of F.H.S. is due to our fabu- lous cheerleaders under their captain Vicki Tes- sicini. Other members of the squad are Florence Merloni, Eileen Cochrane, Pat Thompson, Mary Ann Weddleton, Ellen McDevitt, Pamela Hen- drick, Margie Donovan, Diane Vitale, and Bonnie Murphy. Perhaps their most remembered feat of the ' 57-58 season was the unusual Pre-Thanksgiving Day Rally with one turkey in performance. Set! HHhBB CAPTAIN MOORE Pop! CROSS COUNTRY The newly formed Cross-Country Team at F.H.S. had a large and successful turn-out for Coach Try- con. Relying on the strong legs of Captain Jerry Moore and of runner Gyuri Nimeth, the team com- piled a first year record of 2 wins and 6 losses for the two and one half mile course. â– â– â– â– MB 3HHMHH9BH COACH TRYCON GYURI JERRY Susan Betsy Action! FIELD The season promised to be favorable with a 2-2 opening game with Need- ham. Although Framingham led at the half 2-0, Needham scored twice in the second and thus tied the score. Other games were played with Wellesley, Braintree, Walpole, and Dedham. The HE. HOCKEY Natick-Framingham game was can- celled.
