Text from Pages 1 - 110 of the 1963 volume:

p Motheids, Pride DEAR ABBY: I have followed your column for years and' have quietly applauded your advice to teen-agers. In raising my own daughter I went through all the , normal trials and tribulations. Half the time I had a deep sense of failure. Our daughter is now married and lives 800 miles away. We correspond regularly. Her last letter made' me so happy I want to share part of its contents with you. You may publish it to let other parents know that the long hard fight they put up to raise good children is-well worth the effort: ' Dear Mama: Since I have been married, and now that I am approaching parenthood, I've done a lot of think- ing. To you and Daddy I want to say 'thank you.' I don't believe any childever really appreciates its parents while they are under the same roof. First, I want to thank you for being a good hus- band and wife to each other. Mom, by just being you, you taught me so much about being a good wife without saying a word. If I can be just half the mother' to my children as you were to me, I'l1 be satisfied. I mean all the love and attention, and even all the hounding you did when you thought it necessary to get after me about brush- ing my teeth, practicing the piano, and going to church fellowship. For teaching me right from wronggfor teaching me to love and to share. And for giving me faith when everything seemed lost, I thank youxwith all my heart. I love both you and Daddy very, very much. That's it, Abby. Can you blame me for being- F A PROUD MAMA DEAR PROUD: Certainly not. And the pride you feel at this moment is well deserved. Con- gratulations! The campaigning this year was carried out far more effectively then it has been in the past years. There were four candidates, 'two seniors and two juniors. All the candidates did fine jobs in their campaigns, especially in their speeches. This year the Student Council has accomplished a number of things. Our first project was sponsoring a SocklHop after a football rally. We continued the attendance program and the program to promote more respect of the standard rules. Twelve Student Council members went to the state convention in Auburn and much valuable information was obtained. The Student Council also arranged a Christmas Program and presented it before the entire student body. A few of our members at- tended a session of legislature in Augusta to support a bill concerning unlicensed operators of motor vehicles. Our biggest project was planning a Career Day. VVe helped Mr. Goss, our Guidance Director, set up the program and arranged for speakers. This year the Student Council, under the guidance of Mrs. Hewes, Mr. Coffin, and Mr. Thomas, has endeavored to help the students of F.A. with their problems, requests, and social events. We chose for our class leaders: President, jeff Taylor, Vice-President, Sally Macom- ber, Secretary, Linda Barker, and Treasurer, Iulie Warren. Priscilla Bradbury, Sally Macornber, and Rachel Strout represented us in Stu- dent Council. Mr. Croves and Mrs. White were our advisors. We became very active in most sports, various musical organiza- tions, F.F.A. and F.H.A. Sophomore year we again elected jeff Taylor and Julie Warren as our President and Treasurer, while Iohn R.obinson was elected Vice- President, and Elizabeth Parker was elected Secretary. Bonnie Gerry, Mary Libby, and Sharon Zwicker represented us in Student Council. Again our class was well represented in all sports, musical organiza- tions, and other clubs. We had approximately twenty students on the Honor Roll each semester. We also did very well in the Magazine Campaign. Under the leadership of Iohn Robinson, President, Bruce Grant, Vice-President, julie Warren, Secretary, and Cail Clark, Treasurer, we began our junior year at F. A. Jeff Taylor was elected President of the Student Council this year. Ethelyn DeLue, Mary Libby, and Sharon Zwicker were representatives.. The National Honor Society recognized three of our classmates as members this year - julie NVarren, Sally Macomber, and Anna Cod- reau. With the junior Plays, junior Speaking, Band, Majorettes, Cheer- leading, the choruses, F .F.A., F .H.A., basketball, football, other sports and clubs, our class was kept quite busy. ln the Penquis Prize Speaking contest, Nancy Carter took first place. Senior year at Foxcroft Academy was busy and exciting in many respects. rchallengev was the byword in academic advancement, career choice, and extra-curricular activities. NVe chose Skip Salley as our class President. The other class officers were Linda Clark, Vice-President, Marilee Preble, Secretary, Roxanne Giordano, Treasurer. Cail Clark and Ronald Ruksznis served as class representatives to the Student Council. Sheila Boone was elected by the entire student body to the office of Student Council Vice-President. Linda Clark was elected National President of the F.H.A., bringing great honor to our class and school. john Robinson was a semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Keeping an eye on June 12, 1963, we continued all our efforts in our studies and extra activities until the end. Now we are looking for- ward to a bright future with much confidence and just a little uneasi- ness. In our hearts Foxcroft Academy and all its memories will never be forgotten as we ascend to life's road. DID MOST FOR CLASS I. Taylor, S. Boone CLASS FLIRTS D. Bolstridge, Cochrane BEST LOOKING S. CD CLASS GFFICERS Nancy King, Vice-President, julie Ander- son, Treasurer, Kandyce Plummer, Secre- tary, Edward Danforth, President. CLASS HISTORY To begin the new school term of our sophomore year, the class elected Edward Danforth as president, Nancy King as vice-president, Iulie Anderson as treasurer, and Kandyce Plummer as secretary. Getting the year off in full swing is always a problem, but we managed to do so by holding a Freshman Reception dance, which turned out to be quite successful with a large number of the student body in attendance. Nancy Snow, Gladys Greene, and Julie Anderson were our representatives to the Student Council. Our class has had an outstanding representation in such various school organizations such as F.F.A., F .H.A., sports, debating, Math Club, chorus, and band. Thirteen sophomore students participated in the All-State Festi- val, and four sophomores achieved scholastic high honors this year. f 'U wdre silly SOI-'ho '4 5 HW! lv 1 f Q 8 l MQ ,l XX i k X w D. if 'Yi f -.- -T7-...flfkzff-l f vi' ...-- i gi-H '-fri-Fu is Freshmen, Class of 1966 ,, s ' B '- 'gr A to -I sf J ' 7 Q Q ' L , . -' r 1 ':- ff- ' . PRESIDENT Last summer at Salt Lake City, Linda Clark was elected National President of the Future Homemakers of America. Her first duty was to organize the other newly elected officers into an Execu- tive Council, and to begin nation-wide plans for the year. In October, this Council met in Washington, D. C. for a week setting up the Program of work and, making plans for the week-long National Convention to be held at Kansas City, Missouri, next july. Linda will preside at the convention, and will be the featured speaker at the Banquet which ends the program. The convention will be attended by about 2,000 girls and their advisors from all of the 50 states, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The organization has over 500,000 members. During the year, Linda and Mrs. Hewes have been invited to attend the State conventions in New Hampshire, Vermont and Connecticut. The Varsity Club was very active during the 1962- 63 school year. Besides selling ice-cream during lunches and refreshments at all the home basketball and football games, the Varsity Club helped to pro- mote school spirit by selling school sweatshirts which had pony emblems on them. The money collected from this year's investments was put to good use by supplying the school with a washer-dryer for athletic use. A goal for which the Varsity Club is reaching is to raise enough money to buy a whirlpool bath that will be useful in taking care of bruises or sprains that happen during the various sport seasons.
