Lincoln spoke these words almost one hundred years ago, yet today they are still true. We are struggling that our government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the earth. To the youth of our own generation who are in military service, and to those who have given that last full measure of devotion for the cause of freedom in the modern world, we dedicate this hook. In so dedicating, we also pledge ourselves to give our best in whatever crisis may come to us .... from the tiny first graders who are just beginning life's training, to the seniors who are now passing through our doors into the world. Nw Kfww -5.. The crew spent many an anxious hour up in the air before the pictures were all mounted, but they managed to save the big ship. Mystery of the'year was who took the glue from the library floor? No, it wasn't spilled there-just a whole can of rubber cement walked away from the junior high building. The staff thought that the stuff would stick , but that wasn't all. Three members of the staff evidently followed the glueg anyway, Lavonna Seals, Marilyn Anderson, and june Hensley failed to get into the above picture. Here they are though, in the accompanying snap, caught concentrating. But even Stacy Hall couldn't locate the cement, so if some of these pages are blank everyone will know the reason. Did the rest of the crew do anything? Inventory shows they used up the following: 1 gal. glueg 1 gross pencilsg 10 dozen typewriter ribbonsg 1 carload typing paperg 1 dozen paper cuttersg two photographers, and two sponsors. Mama's Baby Boy, senior play, was a hilarious comedy with class president, joe Steen, as the baby boy and Dorothy Elkins as julie, who captured him. In May, they made their last class flight, seeing various interesting views of their native state. When at last training days are over, they will receive their wings. Whether they take higher training or begin piloting their personal lives now, they will surely attain their goals. .- 300:41 Beverly Coffee, Senior class treasurer, Geneva Thomas, secretary Bonnie Presley, uice-president, joe Steen, president, make an impressive-looking executive group .... during class business sessions. 1 1 were 'QW Y' .pads .MM Nm, sal sf 1 32' Henry Ruth Adair Max Akers Maxine Blevins Dorothy jo Capehart Daily Living Club, 50-51. This was drawn up last year and went into effect during the first semester of this year. The Fox Den which is operated by both the junior and senior high councils is the favorite hang-out of the students before school and at noon. As you can see from the snapshot, cokes are always in demand at the stand. You even get free icel' in them, in the wintertime. This is the third year for the Den to be in operation. Proceeds from the stand go to buy honor pins awarded annually to outstanding students, for expenses of the football queen coronation, and for various other school activities. Dixie Page, football queen, was presented a gold football on a chain by the councils. Attendants were given a small white leather football. The councils also gave the queen a lovely bouquet of mums just before the coronation ceremony. A clfange of scenery was noticeable from the highway at the begin- ning of the Christmas holidays. The councils bought a colorful neon sign showing the words, Merry Christmasl' with a star above it. This was installed on top of the junior high building. The Senior high council purchased a full-length mirror and put it in the girls' lounge in the high school building. They also planned ob- servance of courtesy week. Eight occasional chairs were purchased by the junior high council as a project. These chairs will be used in the council rooms and also on stage in the auditorium. The councils were in charge of the junior high basketball tournament held here in April. They also served the school by assisting in various de- tails for carrying on the 6-B Conference vocal contest held at Fox this spring. The councils also take responsibilities in carrying on various other school activities. Erm-xt Limlrxmitb closes xbnp after a busy day ai the den. The candy and pop stand has grown into a real business with the council handling a large volume of sales daily. Council members like Ernest are faithful in their duties. The same qual' ities are required for a good football player. Under the careful coaching of Lloyd G. Skelton, the Fox high school football team developed into a precise squadron. The Foxes returned from the football training camp at Craterville to start a good season by defeating Davis 18-0. The next week they avenged last years' victor, Dunc- an B , by flying past them 19-0. The fol- lowing week, Kingston went home from Fox nursing a 28-0 loss. A week later a spirited Graham team held Fox to a 19-6 score, the first team to score on Fox. A hard wind held the conversion kick down and Fox lost to Dpndee, 7-6. One of the worst battles of the season was when Velma-Alma, last year's conference winner, rolled over Fox to a 40-0 victory. The following week Healdton and Fox played to a 6-6 deadlock which was cap- tured by the Fox squad on penetrations. The Foxes had to fight hard to hold the Wilson Eagles to two touchdowns, and Harry Fore Bob Frost .alma 'W' Donald Hale Roger Hendricks Jnntball the Eagles returned home with a 14-0 vic- tory. The .next week Fox journeyed to Ringling to dehorn the Blue Devils, 12-o, playing in freezing weather. In the final homecoming game, the Foxes edged the Marietta Indians 7-6. At this game'Bob Frost and Mjckey Wright, co-captains, crowned Senior Dixie Page Football Queen of 1951-, concluding a long campaign which ended in a hard won and decisive victory for her. Dixie's home- room got behind her and contributed S100 to the race to win over the three other high school classes. Proceeds of the race went to buy the Senior lettermen award jackets. Bob Frost, halfback, Mickey Wright, guard, and J. W. McCartney, center, were selected for the 6-B all-district team. The Foxes can certainly have mission completed written on their football record for 1950-51, but their coach is now on another mission. He was called to active duty as a U. S. Marine Corps officer in jan- uary. 'i inf, o -- , ! , Raymond Hopkins 9 . j. W. McCartney .,4q W. A. Ofs little Joe 7WcCartneyJ ' football Fox cubs were classed top-dog by 6-B amaches before the season opened, and the spirited little group lived up to the name. They never knew the word quit and this determination won them a football season that will be long remembered by Junior hligh students here at Fox. The season opened with the boys going to Ringling and beating the young Blue Devils to the tune of 16-0. Next the Fox cubs took on Healdton, their age-old rivals, whom they left behind with a 13-6 score, leaving the Bullpups hungry for revenge. The cubs went all out when they met Velma-Alma to smother the Comets 21-0. The next week they went to Healdton to give the Bullpups their chance for revenge, but the Foxes came home with another 21-0 victory. Ringling was then out to get the Foxes. The home team was scored on for the second time since the season's start with the final tally 18-6 to put the Foxes out front in conference rating. The Foxes and the Velma-Alma Comets tangled again this time at Fox where the young Foxes Won with a 35-6 score. Fox junior High students are proud of these boys for the will to win they have maintained through the season and for the goal they have set for the Junior High teams in years to come. The junior High gang gets together with Merle Watson and ,limes Ogden, coaches, to talk football. They are: Carl Ronald Buck, johnny Fisher, Leonard jackson, Bobby Roach, Arvis Davis, Doyle Randolph, Emest Linde- smith, Merle Watson, Herman Wright, Raymond Hopkins, Tommy Vincent, Dicky Thorp, Delton McKee, Wendel Phelps, james Ogden. Perry Kennedy, jerry Zeimer, james Hale, jimmy Mefford, and Derrell Kunkel. This team of Little Foxes breezed through the season with 20 victories in 21 games played to win the 6-B Conference title, and the Fox junior high school tournament trophy. They proved themselves real fighters at the beginning of the season when they walloped Ringling 35-5 'to win, going away. Their spirits were high when they went to Kingston the following week, only to become crestfallen when they lost 24-20. lt seems the defeat by Kingston instilled a winning spirit in the young Foxes, for they took their next opponents, Velma- Alma, with a 20-12 margin. Then they edged the Healdton Bullpups 23-20 to make it two-out-of-three. Next the boys traveled to Davis to meet Wynnewood on the first day of the junior high' tournament, leading them 24-15 when the whistle sounded. The next day they played Davis in the semi-finals and were edged out 20-23 for their second disappointment of the season. The Fox Cubs now played their conference rivals, the Wilson Eagles, whom they outplayed and outscored, with the final count 18-16. The Eagles tried again three days later during the Fox junior high tournament. They were almost successful, but the Foxes came from behind in the last quarter to make it 13-12 at the final whistle. The next day of the tournament, the little Foxes took on Doyle and beat them easily, although the final score was 23-21. Fox was never behind, and with Rex Eaves as high-point boy they easily outscored Doyle. H Saturday in the finals Fox came up against Healdton. whom they beat 23-15 to win the tournament and the coveted trophy. A few days before, their coach, Lloyd Skelton reported for military duty at San Diego. They were proud to send the news of their victory to him. Carl Buck, former athletic coach and now superintendent, took over the coaching duties, to see the team go on to finish the season without another loss. The following week the junior high boys met Ringling on the home court and showed them that Fox was still tops. The Ringling youngsters returned home beaten for the second time this season by Fox, 30-7. Three days later the Foxes took on the V. A. junior high for the second time this season. With Mickey Rogers leading the offensive attack, they mauled the Comets 20-12. They then won over Kingston in the return game, and also trounced Dundee to win the conference title. The Fox Foxes got off to a bad start this season as they dropped the first two games to Ringling and V. A., respectively. Fox and Ringling were tied at the end of the last half, but at the end of a second overtime period the score stood at 36-34 in favor of Ringling. Playing the last game before Christmas holidays, Fox came home from Kingston en- joying a 44-42 victory. Having had only one practice after the Christmas holidays, the Foxes fell easy prey to the Healdton Bulldogs, 38-24. The following week Fox came home from Marietta nursing a 47-23 loss. The Wilson Eagles defeated the Foxes twice in a row, the first time the- score was 47-15, and for the following game the score was 59-30. Dundee returned home the following week with a 44-29 victory to their credit. Ringling journeyed to Fox only to be beaten by a fired-up Fox team, 39-34. A half-time lead by the Foxes was destroyed by the V. A. Comets as they returned to the north with a 33-23 victory. Fox was defeated in the first game of the Oil Field Tournament as Graham controlled the ball in the last quarter to remain ahead, 32-31. Marietta returned home from Fox with the overpowering score of 61-37 in their favor. In playing the last home game of the season, Fox was defeated by Kingston, 37-31. It cannot be said that the Foxes had a too successful season from the standpoint of win- ning games, but the boys out for basketball .60- Baa lmtball have accomplished much in learning to work together There are several good Sophomores and Juniors coming up for next year, and if the boys develop themselves correctly a good team can be expected.
