STUDENT COUNCIL THE 1939-40 Student Council endeavored to sponsor more recreational programs. This was partially done through their assuming the responsibility for all assembly pres- entations. Their aim was to present varied entertainments which were of a high educa- tional and inspirational standard as well as enjoyable to the students. In an effort to accomplish their primary purpose, the Student Council sponsored the following: Interclass one-act play tournament, student handbook, awards for secretary books in home room and clubs, award for the student having the best citizenship and scholarship, backward week , a dramatic concert by Faye Adams, and the purchase of a flag forthe flag pole. 1 '10 ESSIE MAE MUMENAMY E4 1- WININGHAM Muiic' B. Activities have been carried on in practically every field represented by our State and National Congresses. We are especially grateful to our most competent and faithful Committee Chairmen, and to our Superintendent of Schools, and members of the faculty, for their fine spirit of cooperation with the P. T. A. Last year our P. T. A. was rated as a superior association by the state board. Our projects for the year were A Community Recreation Program and An Enlarged Adult Education Program. The Adult Education Program was extended from one Study Club 1938-'39 to three Study Clubs in 1939-'40. Our clubs are: Family Life Radio Club Mrs. J. B. Crews, Chairman Parent Education Club Mrs. John Stoker, Chairman Music Club Mrs. Edgar Moose, Chairman Our year was opened by a School of Instruction 'led by Mrs. E. E. Brown, president, Dun- can City Council, and Mrs. Glen Thompson, Carter County Extension Chairman. Other guest speakers on the program were the unit presidents from Duncan and Healdton chapters. Other Activities of the year were: 1. Workbooks were provided for underprivileged children from the first grade through high school. 2. The High School Annual was assisted financially. 3. Founders Day was observed with a tea in which our past local presidents and faculty members outstand- ing in service were honored. 4. Delegates were sent to the Regional, State and National Conventions. 5. Our annual Hallowe'en Carnival furnished desirable Hallowe'en recreation for the community and raised necessary money for the year's expenses. 6. Back to School Night and Room Exhibits were observed. 7. Through the Summer Round-Up, and Community and State Health Departments, free medical and dental examinations were given to pre-school children and all school children. Mrx. We had 40 points scored against us while we hung up 7 points. Fox had one. of the largest teams it has had in several seasons, a line of 172 pounds aver- age. The backfleld brought the team average down to 160 pounds. With good coaching, loyal support, and team work we had a very successful season. Our prospects for another year are promising although We will miss the 12 seniors that are graduating.
