ROW 3: Jim Peck, Willard Tow, Janet Eads, Ruth Ann Painter, Roger Volk, Gary Chott. If we were to describe an active and important participating student organization of Fox High, the Ha-Ko Staff would be a perfect example. Its purpose, to produce an outstanding yearbook of which the students and school can be proud, is carried out -by the-members of the staff to the fullest extent of their ability. Our yearbook contains the combined efforts of a group of students numbering about twenty, who are trying to produce a piece of work that will symbolize students of Fox High and what they can really do. Overseeing the production of the Ha-Ko is James Carron, Editor: assisted by Kay Carpenter, Assistant Editorg with Gary Chott supervising as Business Manager. Under these three are the editors and members of the various staffs: Art, Literature, Darkroom, Production, and Business, that help make the yearbook complete in its layout. This when completed displays our school in all its attire. DEDICATIO In appreciation of what she has done for the betterment of Fox High School, we respectfully dedicate our 1961 Ha-Ko to Mrs. Veta Takach, friend, advisor, and teacher. We of the yearbook staff are especially grateful to her for helping us to proofread and improve literature for the annual during the past two years. In this period she has found time to sponsor the Fox Fax, two senior classes, plus teaching a full schedule of English and one journalism class. Students of her classes almost invariably find them enjoyable. Under her skillful guidance students are led to understand and enjoy literature. Members of her journalism class learn in an informal atmosphere the basic elements of putting together a newspaper, whether it is a metropolitan daily or a high school monthly. Therefore, with respect and admiration the I-la-Ko staffdedicates the 1961 I-Ia-Ko to Mrs. Veta Takach. S EDITOR'S NCTE Finally here is your 1961 Ha-Ko! We of the staff have written, photographed, made layouts, done art work and sent in shipments for the past nine months, until now the book is ready to turn over to you. Our theme this year as you may have guessed from the tri-color cover and full color endsheets - is COLOR. The color of our daily school life, and of our activities. The Ha-Ko staff would like to express its appreciation to all those who co-oper- ated with and advised us on putting out this annual. Now the book you have waited for is in your hands, a living COLORFUL record of the school year 1960-61. We hope you enjoy it. W 4 THE MAGIC TOLICH THE MAGIC TOUCH, the second annual Fox High School play, presented April 29 and 30, was hailed as a rousing success by all in attendance. The play, a three act farce, featured as its theme the perennially popular plot of the ugly duckling blossoming into a beautiful swan. In this case the ugly duckling is a sixteen year old, football playing tomboy, who, in the face of tragedy, transforms herself into a lovely, feminine, young woman. By so doing she delights her social climbing mother, astonishes her henpecked father, and gains the respect and admiration of her gang. It is their job to set the tax levy, to take charge of the finances, and to plan the operation of the school. Since the beginning of Fox School there have been many men who have worked as mem bers of our Board of Education. They have secured better facilities and educational aids for the school. SENIOR FAREWELL As we leave to encounter the problems which we will face as we enter the world, many thoughts race through our minds. We are reluctant, of course, to leave the old familiar patterns of life, and yet we are eager to try our wings in college, the armed forces, marriage, and the business world. As we venture to every corner of the country, and even the world, each of us will carry fond memories of high school hops, proms, homecomings, pep rallies, sports events, assemblies, class and club meetings, concerts, favorite classes, the Senior Steps , and all of the ac- tivities which have made our high school days rich with wonderful experiences. These experiences have helped to prepare us for our futures, and we are grateful to those who have been in- strumental in this preparation. Head football coach Gerald O'Connor in his first year at Fox High School brough the warriors home to a 3-5 record in the 1960 season, which was the third season of varsity competition for Fox High. Handicapped sizeably by last year's graduation which took a total of ten lettermen, and a small line, which averaged only 175 pounds, the Warriors played fine ball. , The most memorable game of the season was the Homecoming Game against St. Thomas Aquinas in which the Warriors were able to crash through with two touchdowns in the final three minutes of play to rob the Trojans of a shut-out, and defeat the St. Thomas eleven, 14-7. Throughout the season the Warriors were aided by the accurate place kicking of Fullback Joe Car- dona flater named player of the yearj, the excellent passing of Quarterback Curt Seward, and the bril- liant running of Halfback Dick Morrow. Sixty-six total points were scored by the Warriors during the season and Curt Seward was high scorer with thirty points, twenty-four of which were scored in the F. H. S. victory over Mehlville. Joe Cardona was also a high scorer with a total of eighteen points. , The warriors' unquenchable spirit and determined improvement highlighted the 1960 football season, and with ten lettermen returning next year F.
