Several innovations have occupied the administra- tion during the '69-'70 year. Most significant of the achievements was the expansion of school facilities. The beautiful, new air-conditioned O'Hara Junior High School Building was opened in September for the accomodation of grades six through eight. Six new rooms have been added to the High School. The air-conditioned rooms are located in the lower floor of the new addition and will be used for English rooms and study halls. It has been decided that the Sharpsburg schools will merge with the Fox Chapel Area Schools next year. The office of Coordinator of Environmental Education was created and is currently held by Miss Beulah Frey. The office's duties entail organizing the district schools' biology programs to avoid repetitive studies and to organize a conservation project in the ele- mentary schools. The English and social studies pro- grams have been revised to add a variety of new courses designed to widen the scope of the student. In the English department examples of new courses are Acting I and II, Writer's Seminar, Black Literature, Speed Reading, College Preparation, and many others. Among the new social studies courses are Sociology, Psychology, Afro-Ameri- can History, and Political Science.
