With an impressive record of twelve wins and only two losses, the 1970 tennis team took second place in Section 4. The team was beaten only by McKeesport, and for the first time in Fox Chapel History, beat Shadyside Academy. Eric Horne was the number one man, captain of the team and placed third in the WPIAL Singles Finals. He was backed up by Ion Flint, 1425, jim Blakely 05535, Wes Walters f96f4j, and Kirby Mehr- hof C451 The tennis team held the unique distinction of be- ing the only one with a married man on it. It will be hard to replace the team, as Kirby Mehrhof is the only returning letterman. The volleyball team, in its second year of competition, posted a fine record of 18 wins, and 4 losses. The team was coached by Mr. DeRiggi and captained by Doug Gilbert. In the semi- finals of the WPIAL playoffs, Fox Chapel lost to West Deer in two hours of non-stop play. The loss was particularly heart- breaking because the team had beaten West Deer during the regular season. During the fall, 9 intramural football teams, including the Faculty Red Flash, battled it out on the practice football field. The Cuckolds, a team composed of senior Key Club members, emerged victorious. alleg Of The Volleg INTRAMURAL FOOTBALL TEAM-Botlom Row: D.
