At times the defense fell short, however the team beat Springdale once and tied them once. The offense showed signs of a future power for Fox Chapel and the outlook for next year and the years to come appears promising. The 1969 cross country team was under new management this year. The new coach, Mr. Seward, is a physical education teacher at Dorseyville junior High. The team was plagued by injuries and the Foxes won two out of seven meets, beating Shadyside and Hampton. The team captain was Glenn jonnet, and the varsity squad included, seniors, Norm Eckler and Ray Brozek, junior, Chris Scheib and sophomores, john McCormick and Fred Leech. The junior varsity squad included juniors, Cliff Miller and Gordon Brown, sophomores, jim Nelson, john Lhota, Doug Fidoten, Mark Colowit, Brian Hegarty, and Chuck Lengle, and freshman john Whelan. The cross country course was lengthened from 2.2 to 2.5 miles and the record was set by Norm Eckler with a time of 15 minutes 2 seconds. Coach Seward is initiating a program at the junior high school level in order to promote interest in cross country and hopes to have a solid team established when the junior high students enter the high school. Football Still Kicking The J.V. football team ended the season with a record of four wins and three losses. The team finished strong- ly by beating Shaler, Plum, and Moon in the final three games. The Foxes were led by sophomore quarterback john Henning and coached by the able team of Mr. Sonson and Mr. Domy- slawski.
