For the first time in Fox Chapel history, the football team recorded a winning sea- son. On September 20, 1969, Fox Chapel ended the jeers of the unbelievers beating East Allegheny 23-20. It was the first vic- tory for a varsity team since 1967. The win was preceded by a loss to Gateway, the 1969 section's champions by a score of 27- 15. The next week our Foxes lost in a frustrating defeat at North Hills 14-12. One week after the East Allegheny victory, the team was again disappointed as North Al- legheny scored in the final minutes to de- feat Fox Chapel 12-7. In the following game played at Burrell, the team scored a crushing victory over the Bucs, 27-6. This score was one of the largest margins ever in F.C. history. The homecoming game with Shaler was lost 28-8. The varsity then en- joyed a winning streak defeating Plum, 36-27, Moon 21-7, and finally an inspired team upset Churchill 26-6. Beating Churchill and ending the season with a record of 5 and 4 brought Fox Chapel a chance to play Sto-Rox for runner-up of the conference. In the playoff the Foxes were defeated 34-6. Recognition must be given to the new head coach, Mr. Waflkowiak and his able assistants, Mr. Damico, Mr. Domyslawski, Mr. Cordisco, Mr. Naunchik, and Mr. Son- son. The varsity team captains were jim Stewart and Bob Hoskins. Stewart was se- lected as All West Penn Conference Tackle and received the Most Rugged Player awardg Koskins was elected Most Valuable Player.
