90 I As Coach Clark said, the Varsity Track and Field Team 'cexperienced a 100921 improvement this yearf' From one win in 1967, the team rocketed to two victories and eight losses in 1968. The outstanding aspect of the whole season, however, was the tremendous support provided by underclassmen. They set four individual and school records as well as one relay record. Lowry Sargent soared 579 in the high jump, Bruce McKinney leaped 19,575 in the broadjump and 39'9 in the triple jump. Gary Ratway tied the pole vault record with a Vault of 11,6 , and George Williams hurled the javelin 163'6 . The two mile relay team also shattered the existing record with a time of 81384. The returning lettermen were not idle, however. Seniors Matt Marshall, Rob Strange, Dennis Hardy, Gene Beck and Steve Lyle will be sorely missed. Marshall represented Fox Chapel in the 2-mile run at the WPIAL finals where he qualified for the state meet by placing second. Needless to say, the underclassmen were the backbone of the 1968 team, and the future never looked brighter. This yearis rifle team had a successful season, winning seven and losing four of their matches. Co-captains of this year's team were ,lamie Hoover and Bill Blakely. Next year's team will be hampered by the loss of four of their highest scorers, but Mr. Geis has high hopes for the remaining members of the team. Few Supporters But Strong Team Spiri1 It s Sock it to me time' Brozak sprints out of the starting block. l

Baseball Fox Chapel's Golf Team dropped to second place in Section 3 of the YV.P.l.A.L. after winning the champion- ship for the last two years. The teamas record was a respectable seven wins and four losses. The squad took the same total number of strokes as did the section champions of last year, indicating that the teams were equal in ability. The seniors on the team were Larry Wallisch, Mark Veenis, Marty Powell, and Ed Buckey. The junior members were Captain Al Beeken, Bob Waldschmidt, and George Cuch. The player with the lowest average on the team was Al Beeken, with a 77.5, followed closely by Mark Veenis and Larry Wallisch. The season began with five straight victories, all by wide margins. Next came losses to Churchill and the eventual sectional champions, Plum. The last four matches resulted in two wins and two losses. The high- light of the year was a l6-0 shutout victory over Wilkins- burg. Vllith two lettermen returning, prospects for a good season next year look very bright.
