Despite the superb efforts of senior Cecil lrvin, the boys were able to muster only three victories out of a twenty-two game schedule. With a definite height disadvantage to almost every opponent, the boys' play was characterized by an outside floor game led by Irvin and junior Al Beeken. ulrvw, the team captain, led all scorers with 2115 points. Beeken, although he missed six games due to an ankle injury, and another junior, Lowry Sargent, followed closely in the scoring race. Three seniors shared the two additional starting roles, Gil Frauen- heim, Dave Cook and Dick Cannon. ln the two critical victories, over impressive Har-Brack and arch-rival Shaler, Cannon earned the nick- name of ulcei' and Cook became known as c'The Scrapperw for their hustling plays that proved to be the Winning margins. ln the latter part of the season, two sophomores, Doug Gilbert and George Wil- liams, were promoted to gain varsity experience. The unclerclassmen showed great promise as Wlilliarns scored forty-four points in the last three games, Beeken hooped a game high of twenty-four against Churchill and Sargent blocked eleven shots on defense in the final Section 8A game.
