RENARD 1968 To the reader: Our purpose in presenting this yearbook is twofold. First and foremost is our desire to compile a complete. accurate. and livelv account of the events of the past year. Second is our wish to present along with this a set of ideas which we hope will give unity to the hook. as well as a sense of order and direction to the disassociated memories within it. To this end. we have included several features whose presence may require some explanation. The theme of the book is found in the photographic essay, and is the jumping-off place for the rest of the ideas: they can all he derived from it. Each of the six divisions of the book has been represented bv a particular field of human action appropriate to the contents of that section. These fields are represented by the symbols on the cover, which are placed there in accordance with the order of the book. Thus, the Faculty is represented by Education, Clubs, the expression of the creative impulse. by the Arts, specifically musicg Sports by itself, Activities. the cooperation of several individuals working toward a common goal, by Humanitiesg Classes, the collection of scholars seeking knowledge in diverse wavs, by Science: and Advertisements bv Economics. The cover motif is repeated on the division pages, where we have included a portrait of one of the outstanding men in the corresponding field. The quotations from these men were chosen with the aim of reflecting the character of the section, the philosophy of the particular field, and the theme of the book. Our purpose is neither to instruct nor to convert, but rather to suggest something of the spirit which has accompanied the outstanding achievements of the students and teachers of Fox Chapel High School. ln this sense, we dedicate the book to no single person, but instead to whoever reads it and finds something of himself somewhere in its pages. -the Editors.
