Heading the Guidance Department is Miss Hall, the counselor for students whose last names begin with the letters M through R. Mr. Massalsky assists students from A to Eg Mr. Boyle from F to Lg and Mr. Hess from S to Z. The Guidance Department not only advises students on college choices, but it also helps to provide jobs for the vocational- and business-minded students. In fact all students considering a business or vocational career, were offered two or three positions and consequently all have jobs upon graduating. MR. DARREL J. HESS MR. Another guidance duty is the administration of college entrance and scholarship tests. In February the sophomores are confronted with the National Educational Development Test and the juniors take the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The results from these tests influence the granting of college scholarships. College Boards and Achievement Tests are administered in December, January, March, and May. The office was besieged with problems right from the start of school. With none of the new wing completed, room changes were necessary and study halls were assigned in the unfinished cafe- teria, band and chorus rooms, and the auditorium. Teachers awaiting new rooms set up their desks in the boys' and girls' dressing rooms. The P.A. system was a constant source of anxiety. Despite these problems the office personnel remained cool and everything was always under their efficient control. Mr. Poulson joined Dr. Tranquill as a second assistant principal. He has worked very closely with the Student Council, and the two of them together with Mrs. Heidish helped to bring into operation the long antici- pated Student Lounge. Miss Brombach, despite the many problems, managed to remain cheerful and helpful. Mrs. Ritter started this year as the attendance secretary. Office Personnel Strive To Assure Dr. Roush would have likecl to have clone work with computers. Mr. Pouls0n's favorite dish is roast beef au jusf, Mrs. Van Pelt plays taxi driveri' for the younger set.
