i FOX's main short range battery is a 5 inch 54 caliber MK 42 Mod 10 gun mount, capable ot loading and firing various 70 pound projectiles in rapid automatic fire at both surface and air threats. Gunnersmate guns QGMGJ techs maintain the gun mount in ready condition as well as maintain all FOX's small arms weapons and ammunition and all pyrotechnic devices. During the deployment the division maintained the gun mount in 100 Of, readiness condition while in the Indian ocean and the North Arabian Sea. ln addition the gun crew tired rounds of 5 inch diameter projectiles during various exer- cises. They also helped maintain the crew's small arms qualifications through numerous weapons training firings.
