Page twenty PRAIRIE GOLD CLASS HISTORY Out of Natures sacred household To the temple of high learning Came the class of twenty-eight. Brave in spirit, dauntless courage, We will reign with supreme power. Master Education.-Bind her Close within each cranial wall. She will serve us, be our slave. Out of life's most hard-fought battles Wfe appear with Yictory's laurcls' Conquerors to rule the years. 'Twas not always quite so easy For before us looms the memory Of our Freshman days at school, XX'hen we struggled with new subjects English, Latin, Algebra, Yainly battered 'gainst the thickness Of our shock-resisting skulls. Next before our vision passes-4 Memory of our first school party. Then before us came the contest Came the dreaded l.atin contest Finally conquered by Mart Swope. Next to greet our untrained eyesight Came the l.iterary contest. And we sent out to the conquest lone Swan, our worthy speaker. Then a monster loomed before us, 'Txvas the fear of those exams. After striking down these demons XVe emerged as Soph-o-mores, There we struggled unabated. Conquered the unconquerable Caesar XYith the help of Martha Swopc. Solved the mystery. Mathematics. Struggled over lfnglish themes. ln the field of our athletics XYe were fully represented Hy l,cn, llenick, Cy. and Yan'ripe. Then our citizen, lone Swan. Took State honors with her flag creed. Swift this school term soon was ended And we bade farewell the fortress XYhere we worked with tireless effort. To the church-house then retreated To begin our ,lunior lessons, 1928

PRAIRIE GOLD VVhich we did with high ambitions, Sometimes losing, sometimes gaining-- llut we never ccased to grow. XX'hile as salesmen roved the building Selling candy to the students For the huge event to followw The reception and the prom. During all this great excitement lintered we to our new fortress XX'hiCh stood waiting for our presence. Overcoming all obstacles, XYe came forth triumphantly. Next with dignity of Seniors, XX'ith a Senior's super-knowledge, And a manner unsurpassing, XYQ strode onward toward our goal. Many honors did we gain 'l'hrough the greatness of our classmates XYl1o to fame are well acquainted. Then there were our officers, Bravely took up they their burdens Proving they were able workers. Pitfalls did we oft encounter Hut before us there stood ready :Xll our teachers great and learned VVho with ready understanding Helped us everytime they could. VYe had orators in onr midst here: Margaret Sheetz and Donald Griffin. And one with the pen was able, Sara Pfleeger through great skill Sent an essay to the State. Then we tried ourselves as Actors and brought forth the Senior play Soon our high school journey's ended. And we go forth to the world Keeping in our minds before us Our last motto, On and On. -l-lalcie li. llamilton. -Martha A. Sampson. l928 Page twenty-one
