0I el,UOI An empty house is like a stray dog or a body from which life has departed. As a house is constructed from the foundation up, piece by piece, so is the life of a person built, deed by deed, from infancy to adulthood. Architects determine the shape of a house just as teachers help shape and direct the life of a school child. By adding or taking away, the workmen may alter the entire appearance of the house. By the understanding and guidance of a teacher, a child's life may also be altered until he becomes an entirely different person. As a student enters junior high of Four Oaks School, he is like the lowly acorn, which is small in size but great in potentialities. When planted and nourished, the same lowly acorn will slowly begin its upwardijourney toward its destination--a lofty, majestic oak, later to be transformed into a lovely dwelling place. The seventh grader may be likened to the insignificant acorn--slowly pushing his way toward becoming a member of the senior class, and later a worth- while citizen of the world. Many changes must be encountered and surmounted before either the acorn or the seventh grader reaches its goal. With persistence and determination, the individual who wishes may make of his life a lovely and worthwhile structure. On the pages of this book are recorded for all to see some of the stages of growth and the incidents that help to fashion the life of a student. It is the wish ofthe ACORN staff that only pleasant memories will drift to the mind of each student as he opens his yearbook--the ACORN, 1958.

,gn Memoriam JANET GRICE Born, February 23, 1942 Died, August 5, 1957 LINDA BEASLEY Born, July 28, 1944 Died, October 23, 1957 IN MEMORIAM Strong Son of God, immortal Love, Whom we, that have not seen thy face, By faith, and faith alone, embrace, Believing where we cannot prove, Thine are these orbs of light and shade, Thou madest Life in man and brute, Thou madest Death, and lo, thy foot ls on the skull which thou hast made. Thou wilt not leave us in the dust: Thou madest man, he knows not why, He thinks he was not made to die, And thou hast made him: thou art just. Thou seemest human and divine, The highest, holiest manhood, thou: Our wills are ours, we know not how Our wills are ours, to make them thine. Our little systems have their day, They have their day and cease to be: They are but broken lights of thee, And thou, O Lord, art more than they. -Tennyson
