, 4 4 L Ju sn I O aaa .jflwforg . . .God ever Glorious. . . came the majestic strains from the lifted voices of the Four Oaks High School Glee Club that memorable graduation day when ever so dignified, ever so sedately, the Senior Class of 1958 marched down the aisles toftake their seats. In the hearts of everyone bubbled a thrill of achievement, of awe, of gladness! Our minds drifted gently, willfully back through the years, remembering the day we became Freshmen-- Oh, that was a happy day! For eight years we had struggled and had grown with the expectation of at last being in high school. With all our immaturity and irresponsibilities, we tripped ever so innocently over the monitors in the halls and came in late for classes .... But, still we continued to grow intellectually and by the time we were sophomores, we had become accustomed to the habits of the upperclassmen. .Our friends laughed at our silly jokes and each new day brought a thrill of encouragement .... Our junior year was full of activities and roaming the halls in fits ,of laughterg our minds became dimly aware of the future with all those money-making campaigns! Magazine sales! Oh, those evenings in the cottonpatch! Didn't we have fun! We breathed a sigh and our unforgettable junior play, Headin' for a Wedding was on the road! It was a grand success along with our junior-Senior Banquet! Chinese waiters and waitresses finished carrying out the theme while we dined in our Oriental Gardensf! What fun we had decorating the gym, and espe- cially visiting the wishing well which lent enchantment to the ballroom floor. Then, suddenly we were seniors! The days flew by. Everywhere there was a buzz of activity and forever the noise and clamor of students on the go. Remember that last minute cramming for mid-exams? The Senior Content Battery Test? My, wasn't it hard to keep up with all the ball games! Oh, happy day! At last our class rings came--in all their glory for everyone to see--the gorgeous rubies embedded in gold bands .... We chose the superlatives, our senior play went off with a bangg and thefbustle of the annual staff con- tinued until our yearbook, the ACORN, had been completed and with splendid results was sent to the stu- dents. Admiration filled the eyes of everyone as the Seniors one by one took their seats as guests of honor at the junior-Senior ..... Wasn't the food wonderful! The days sped by and with them came term papers and more studying for final exams .... The fitting of our caps and gowns was a new experience but behind all the laughter and chattering lay heavy hearts One world built on a firm foundation were the words that broke the monotone of silence and all too soon we were marching back down the aisles One last glimpse of all the dear faces a choked sob a hushed goodbye Now was the Big Day the day when each of us as individuals was to take that giant step outinto the world a world that can be either cruel or kind depending mainly upon the type of person each of us is But in this wonderful country of ours with God as our Leader nothing is impossible for the 1958 graduate with his rosy dreams of the future Betty Rose Hockaday e t ' ' ' 1 1 ' X 1 . . . . - . . . . , .. 1 7 , Y Nj. .v:.t.
