Text from Pages 1 - 160 of the 1973 volume:

Like a reflexion of a slow-running stream, we the COBRA STAFF of 1973 have tried to capture the reflexions of school life. This year we could be proud of all four basketball teams. The Senior Boys' played the game of the year against Jessieville, and the rest of the teams won tropheys. These memories will long remain remembered by the students of Fountain Lake. Hopefully this annual will be a guide in such memories. We the COBRA STAFF of 1973 would like to thank Miss Reed, our sponsor; Mr. Ford; and the people who bought advertisements, for without these generous people this publication would not be possible. Michael Frost Donnice King EDITOR ASSISTANT EDITOR and THE STAFF 3 We the Cobra Staff of 1973 proudly dedicate our annual to the person who has contributed the best of his abilities and talents toward the students of Fountain Lake High. This person hasn’t been here as many years as some of our teachers, but he has won a place in the students hearts with his warm personality and sincere devotion to us. He really cares! He is our motto personafied WE TRY HARDER . All the Cobras know this person as Coach Ronnie Marvel. 4 TO REMEMBER ALWAYS When Life ends, the name of the deceased usually appears in the obituaries. But a Life should mean more than this. When Life ends, the name of the deceased and his picture usually appears in die school annual. But a Life is more than this. When Life ends, the deceased is buried and He is usually forgotten. But a LIFE should be remembered. When the Life of Billy Bates and Mike Smith ended, their name appeared in the paper, they were buried, and their name has now appeared in this publication. But let us make a silent vow never to forget their Life. Always remember the good times and memories that each one of us that knew them shared. Because if wc do forget, what purpose did their Life Serve??? It is appointed unto men to die . . . but why so young? The Staff Putting out a paper takes much concentration. That's just the way I feel. 6 Sock it to me! Oh no, do we have to share the bus with them? The famed British statesman, Benjamin Disraeli, spoke those words more than a century ago —in 1844 to be exact. But they are as true today as they were then. 11 is as inevitable as the winds that blow in March: today's young man or woman will be tomorrow's president, legislator, doctor, merchant, farm- er, forester. And posterity's trusteeship will pass from one generation to another. We salute today's students, and congratulate this year's seniors. We wish you well as you pick up the sometimes fragile thread of human progress, and continue the never-ending process of weaving the fabric of mankind's society. In the third grade: Mike Rigsby had to kiss Tommy Riddlehover on the lips for fighting. In the fourth grade: Jeff Hansen was a C student. David Hudson ran into the glass door. In the fifth grade: When the girls played red rover with Benny Arego. In the sixth grade: When Scott McNeely played Goldie Locks in the play. Everyone took their dogs to the Halloween Play. When the whole class cried. In the seventh grade: No one could get their lockers open. We would never holler the 7th grade Battle Cry during the Pep Assemblies. In the eighth grade: Doug Riley taught some of the boys how to throw paper wads in study hall without getting caught. Learned a new dirty word. Everyone carried their lunch to school. In the ninth grade: Nelda T., Debbie H., and Tommie N., were expelled from school for a week. In the tenth grade: When the Hot Rod magazines mysteriously disappeared from the library. Then no one found out who threw the smoke bomb down the hall. Scott M., James H., and John K., were hillbillies. In the eleventh grade: The great egg throwing festive. The two M's left. The far out party at the end of the year. In the twelth grade: Ron Allen turned cool. Scott M. and Jeff H. skipped school and didn't get caught. Gene Wilson finally got a hair cut. Lee Roy still wearing the same funky socks he wore in the 11th grade. Linda Hula and Larry Sabourin FeFe and Fida of bookkeeping. Mike Frost tried to get the part of Sybil in the Senior Play.
