Summer Activities ... While most people during the summer are out swimming, camping, going on vacation four girls from Fouke had a special interest. They were hard at work preparing for the biggest tournment in the USSSA league. Which is the world tournment. In the Junior Girls (13-15 yrs.) league. Melama Webb and Dana Watson played for the Texarkana Blazers. As a member of the American Softball Asso- ciation (ASA), the Blazers attend and placed in tour naments in Fort Smith 3rd. Little Rock 3rd. Benton 2nd. Ashdown 2nd. and placed 1st in league. Also, as a member of the United States Slow Pitch Softball Association (USSSA). they attended and placed in tournaments in Pine Bluff 1st. in Texarkana they placed 1st in district. 2nd in the state of Arkansas, and in Muncie. Indiana for the World tournament in which they placed 20th out of 96 teams from across the United States. In the Girls Youth Softball (10-12) league. Toni Robertson and Annie Buckley played for the Texar kana Peppers. As a member fo the American Softball Association (ASA) the Peppers Attended and placed in tournaments in Marshall 1st. Flooks 1st. Ashdown 2nd. Atlanta 2nd. Nashville 1st. they placed 7th in the state of Arkansas, and they placed 2nd in the Texar kana district league. Also, as a member of the United States Slow Pitch Softball Association (USSSA). they attended and placed in the World tournament at La fayette. Louisana in which they placed 24th out of 56 teams from across the United States. 14 Theme

1987 Panther is Dedicated To Beyond the Ordinary applies to Francis Jones. She has proved this many times in her roles as teacher, sponsor, mother, citizen, and friend. Mrs. Jones and her husband Al have six children and 17 grandchildren many of which have been Fouke Students. She obtained her bachelor degree from Texas Women's University in Denton. Texas, and her mast- er's degree from East Texas State University at Texarkana. She is certified in Social Studies and Business Education. During the years that Mrs. Jones has taught at Fouke. she has been involved in all phases of school life. She has taught all types of social studies courses. In 1981 she developed the vocational business department into a pro- gram that has won national hon- ors. In the past, she has sponsored cheerleaders, pep club, various classes, and is currently the spon- sor of the Future Business Lead- ers of America club. She has served on various com- mittees throughout the years. She acted as chairman of the commit- tee to develop Fouke School's Six- Year Plan. She has served on the supervisory committee for the Miller County Teachers’ Credit Union acting last year as its chair- man. She was a part of the Arkan- sas Advisory Council on Second- ary Education and was a policy board member of the Southwest Arkansas Teachers’ Center. She is also presently teaching eco- nomics at Texarkana College. In 1974 she was named first place winner in the Ninth Annual Kazanjian Foundation's Economic Education Awards Program. This award was given for excellence in teaching economics. Fler FBLA students and their projects and reports have won many state and national awards. Fler small amount of free time is spent reading, helping friends, working in her yard, and watch- ing her soaps”. Mrs. Francis Jones is beyond the ordinary . The 1987 Panther Yearbook Staff proudly dedicat- ed this yearbook to her.
