That describes it perfectly! From a yearbook work- shop sometime last summer, until the very moment you finally re- ceived your copy of the 1986 Pan- ther, a spontaneous effort has been made to give you A VIEW WITHIN. A View Within What? Like all good questions, this too deserves a good an- swer. People, places, groups, and activi- ties, but more than that—the individual attitudes and characteristics that make that subject special was the view we were looking for. Sports would not be sports, organizations could not be orga- nized, and neither would people be anything more than human beings without the challenges, goals, opinions, and effort put forth by each of them. The purpose of this book was to help you remember those people, activities, and events of the Fouke Schools - whether they be elementary or high school - not just from the surface, but from A VIEW WITHIN. Before the task came of putting the yearbook together, we first had to deal with the problems of a rel- atively inexperienced staff, covering both el- ementary and high school activities in one book, and limited funds for such an ex- pensive publication. It wasn't easy nor even desirable at all times, but somehow we did it—we gave you A VIEW WITHIN. From the coming of a new superin- tendent and the continual striving to meet the new Arkansas educational standards, to the 150th birthday of Ar- kansas' statehood, the 1985-86 school year was one of change and celebra- tion. Celebration came through the vic- tories in both sports events and organi- zational competitive events. A Fouke High School Quiz Bowl Team got off the ground as well as a Gifted and Tal- ented program. Students also helped start Fouke's first Historical Society. As you look through the Panther and remember those special people and events, realize that no book could possibly imitate your own view of those memories that were special to you. Turn the page now and enjoy the view - the VIEW WITHIN. Selling Ihe scene for what goes on within the lives of Fouke students is the small but diverse community of Fouke, Arkansas. Summer Of '85 r VIEW N WITHIN I une, July, and August! jokingly exclaimed li- I brarian and yearbook sponsor Sherry Sorrell when asked what her tnree favorite things about being a teacher were. After nine months of hus- tle and bustle at school, Fouke students as well as fac- ulty members were ready for their three months of 'rest.' Well, maybe not exactly rest, but certainly a change in pace. Students went from homework and tests to parties, vacations, and summer jobs. Vacation- ing with family, friends, church groups, and even school organizations was done as far away as New York and L.A. Vacationing away from home was definitely not the only part of the summer though for kids found a multitude of things to do right at home or close by. Crystal Springs, Pebble Beach, and Rolling Waters all provided an escape from the heat. There was anything from riding three-wheelers to playing softball for activ- ity. Spring Lake Park provided the calm and quiet area for picnics in the day and came alive with the some- what wild and fast life at night. But all too soon the days of summer were gone and it was back to school again for one more year.
