Both teams fought up and down the field, but in the end nothing was settled as the game ended in a 6-6 deadlock. The FHS defense performed brilliantly in a 23-O whitewashing of Sylvania Northview, as they tuned-up for the crucial game with league-leader Oregon Clay. Some hard hitting resulted in the match-up, but Clay pulled it out with late scores to beat the Redmen 23-9. Hopes of a league champion- ship iurther diminished when the Bedmen were beaten 39-29 by Bedford. They finished the sea- son with a 5-4-1 record. Football 21 4

Fostoria now moved into the heart of their GLL schedule as the next 5 out of 6 games were league matches. Fostoria next played once beaten Napolean, who had just started their first year in the GLL. The Redmen baptized the newcomer by send- ing them home beaten, 7-6. In this game Fostoria allowed Napoleon to score in the first quarter, but held them scoreless the rest of the way to bring Fos- toria's record to 3-2. Homecoming dawned the next week, as Fostoria played host to tough Lima Shawnee. ln another defensive battle, the Ftedmen pulled it out with Clayton Moore's 35 yard field goal. Sfafe meef highlghfs harrier's season No! xx! 7' CU' The 1978 cross country team posted a fine 7-3 duel and tri- meet record, as they accepted the challenge and made the trip to Columbus for the second year in a row. Hometown rival Saint Wende- lin was once again the opening opposition for the Fiedmen. But the Mohawks, along with visiting Sylvania Northview, went back home defeated. Tiffin Columbian was next in line, but they stopped the Ftedmen's winning streak at two, beating FHS 35-20. Next, the Ftedmen won three in a row over Oregon Clay, Port Clinton, and Upper Sandusky before losing a close one to league foe Napoleon, 28-27.
