About to be leveled after a short gain by a Tiffin Calvert player, is fullback Brian Chapman. The 1978 FHS varsity football team fought its way to a 5-4-1 record, bettering last year's mark of 5-5. Coach Dick Kidwell's teams are well known for their defensive prowess, and this 1978 squad was no exception. The season started against arch-rival Bowling Green. The Redmen's only touchdown came late in the third quarter, when quarterback Joe Hoover hit Phil Sallisbury with a seven yard scoring pass. That was all that was needed, however, as the defense held Bowling Green to just 15 yards total offense, In this game the Fostoria defense showed its consistent domi- nance over the FHS offense, a trait that persisted throughout the season.
