Qntfw Frequently, in the years that lie ahead, each of us will look upon our high school days as a period filled with the purest, unadulterated joy that we have ever known. Already for sixteen years the Red and Black Annual has lengthened this period in its traditions and influences by clearing the mists that soon would shroud it. l sincerely hope that this, our sea- son's effort, will bring back a refresh- ing memory to each of you at some time in the future. JACK PRUDDEN

Our dedication to the class of '38 is best expressed by a sonnet- SEVENTEEN Seventeen-and in the world today- This western world, in mind and spirit free, Partakers of o deathless destiny Undreamed of when the ancient dawn was gray, And early man groped on his trackless way That trophies of his toil you hold in fee, Take them swiftly, ere the years to be Their heavy hands upon your shoulders lay. Heed not the tales the elder people tell Of pain and labor breaking heart and bone, If days be dreary, don the cap and bell, The song discordant, sing the overtone: Though life be lavish or its way be mean, Retain its glamour always-Seventeen. MABEL J. BOURQUIN
