On a September morning in 1939, sixteen eager boys and girls entered the first gr de at Fortville School A few of these were Alberta Denney, Janet Martln, nrline Lummis, Helen Sharrett, Floyd Lew rk, Bruce Corman, and James Fisher with our first teacher, Miss Jarrett, 'the little herdu took a train ride to Anderson Some of the mothers met us and brought us home Our number increased to twenty one in the second grade Jewel hichwine moved here to help increase our number Mrs Reichenbach xas our second grade teacher That year we visted the airport in Indianapolis In our third year of school, we had several new and different experiences Mlss House, our teacher, took our growing flock to the Chilcren's Iuseum in Indianapolls ning a shower for her Moving on to the fourth grade, Miss Schwartz was our teacher Indivldual health ch rts and weekly dictlonary contests were introduced to us Jhen we progressed on to the fifth grade, there was some doubt whether much was achleved that year The reason was th t we had flle dlfferent teachers By now, we had several new members in our class Nancy Swarts, Joann Gudgel, and Robert Smith came here from Mc Cordsville Upon entering the sixth grade, to some it was an intro duction to high school, to others it meant it wouldn't be long until they could use cosmetics Miss Leonard had the hard task of preparing us for high school hveryone was thrilled belng on the high school side The class st rted things rolllng by electing Jean Small as president, Larraine Reeder as vlce president, Janet Martin as secretary, Helen Sharrett as treasurer, and Mrs DeCorsey as sponsor Alberta Cramer came back after being gone for a couple of years O I 'z -1 '.At Christmas, Miss House became Mrs. Dennis.
